Absolutely not. Fasting is good for detoxing, cleansing, etc. You need to work on your dietary habits and learn to work out, not go on some extreme diet (think: not eating is the same as eating too much; you're going overboard, either way). Losing weight must be done slowly and with lots of effort. Sorry, but that's the truth.

BTW, fasting slows down your metabolism so that when you start eating again you gain weight very quickly.

fasting for weight loss is never a good idea. try taking a normal diet, say 1800 calories of sensible food and break that into at least 5 or 6 meals over the day. The total shouldnt go over your reccomended calories. Each time you eat your metabolism jumps up and then tapers off. If you constantly eat the small meals you will keep your metabolism up all the time and you can lose weight with little excersise, add excersise and it will come off. Drink lots of water with this diet and you will be full of energy and not get hungry. If you do get hungry it will be just a short while to your next little meal.. works great
permanent weight loss takes a lifestyle change, there is no magic pill or quick fix

Health lesson alot of peopledont know.
Also when u fast after so long your body stazrts to eat itself. The only real wieght you lose is the top fats wich can easily break down.
these are also known as energy fats and will breaksown anytime. the botttom layer is basically the muscle fats wich stay with the muscles to provide energy while doing heavy activities such as wieghtlifting or hard work.
these are not broken down so easily and usually store some of the more harm fulle chemicals like drugs or alcohol that you may have done as far back as 20 years ago.
these toxins may be released into your bloodstream slowing you down even more.
so you are energy less and sore to move. your muscle then breakdown due to lack of use and your body may reconize that as a new source of energy. then your stomach will get flooded with acid at first from lack of food to digest so when you do eat digestion will be a problem, ulcer may even occure.
the lungs get weaker form lack of use and dont expand the heart gets weaker the stomach may burst and then its over death.

this is the result of an average 8 month strait fasting plan. body weight may vary this time.
those" starving kids over seas" dont really starve they just dont eat as good or as healthy. but they do eat.

Fasting is an idiotic way to try to lose fat (notice i say fat and not weight). There is only one way to lose fat in a healthy way and that is to make sure you don't lose muscle as well.

If you fast, the body's starvation mode kicks in and you actually start burning less calories at rest. When you start eating normally again you would gain MORE weight than if you had not fasted.

Here is a very brief outline on how to lose fat:
1. Set goals
2. Eat properly (more meals at slightly less than your daily required calory count)
3. Cardio Excercise
4. Weights

Works everytime.... get advice from pros.

Don't listen to those who do not know. The New England Journal of Medicine says it is good for weight loss. Plus this site tells of a college study done on keeping the weight off afterwards. Jesus did it but the devil tried to stop him. Also quotes from 11 MDs on how great fasting is.

It can be, but only if it's done under medical supervision. You still need to get the nutrients that the body needs to sustain itself. To do it alone is a bad idea. One day of fasting is good to shrink your stomach and give your system a rest, but more than a day - again, only if medically supervised.

I have heard fasting is or can be healthy. It gives your body time to get rid of all the toxins in it. But I've also heard if you go into extream dieting your body can go into shock and instead of getting rid of the fat that you want to your body stores it because its worried about starving and you hold onto the fat longer than you would have if you just excercise normally. So just eat right and run girl run!

No i don't because your body needs the vitamins and fluids from your diet to sustain proper body functions. Try to just eat healthier. Try eating more fruit and lay off the soft drinks and drink water instead. Stop eating fried foods and lay off the red meats and cheese. Instead eat fish and baked chicken. I have myself tried this and the weight just flew off me. Good luck with your diet and stay healthy.
