The MRB is an internal function of your quality manufacturing system. This generally is in a larger company, but a smaller company can utilize one also. The board consists of representatives from engineering, quality, manufacturing, and purchasing. Their task is to evaluate raw materials available from various vendors that meet or exceed the specification for the part as noted in material specifications. The idea is to make sure that there is control maintained over purchased products to ensure the integrity of the final product. Material certifications should always be provided and maintained on file. Sometimes new materials or process materials such as chemicals become available that may be of benefit to your product and or processes in which case you may need to inform the FAA engineering entity of an "engineering change" you would need to outline the change and benefits with the reason for change. Perhaps something once used is no longer available so you are now replacing what was formerly specified. There are minor changes and major changes, a minor change can be reported on an annual basis but a major change must be approved before continued manufacturing.

I've answered your questions regarding this and other issues before. What you need to do is spend some cash and hire a DER designated engineering representative to assist you. You will find them listed in a searchable data base on the FAA web site.

yes! thank you Jerry for the addition that i overlooked.

Rafael.....you are being to narrow in your interpretation as the manufacturer that produced the part also has an MRB as do you from a receiving and usage sense. It is generaly part of the operations quality manual and outlined therein. The askers question related to the manufacture of these parts.

Jerry L's answer is 100% correct

But there is hardly any MRB anymore.
Try to get to someone to "sign off" parts that are not in print .

Go ahead,try,good luck!

A note: The U.S. Navy has "Never" had an MRB program.

MRB's are only to accept or reject aircraft parts produced where a fault found during their fabrication proccess.
That board should review and decide if the presented part/ proccess or subcomponent is fitted to requirements of aircraft designers

In addition to the answer above, MRB determines if parts manufactured by the company or by subcontractors with minor flaws are useable, and if those with major flaws are reworkable or must be scrapped.
