There is no such thing as sacrificing the one you love most to preserve your freedom. If you are in love with someone you couldn't care less about your lost freedom. You put in balance what you gain and what you loose and when it comes to love, it will always weigh more than freedom. So if someone walks away form you it's because they don't love you or they are better off without you.
I don't fall in love because one or another is what i want, what i have been searching for... I just do! Non si commanda al cuore!

" To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether it's by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know that one life breathed easier because you have lived...is to have succeeded."

Because by the time they get to knowing what they really want, they would have changed and decided that something else is better... After all, the grass is always greener on the other side!

But, basically, it's plain fickle-mindedness..

In fact, no one knows what they really want!
