It totally depends on the girl .. and also on the guy to certain extent. I have never planned to fall for someone of my age and was into older men - but not too old of course. however, i am now head over heals for someone of my age and i see no problem into it. i previously had hundreds of reasons why someone should not go for someone of his/her age and they mean nothing to me now. i have never fallen for even the hottest guy of my class - but this one boy had changed everything.
In relationship, there is no equation. nothing is absolute. just see if it is right for you. now i cannot even think of falling for someone younger than me. i may just change my mind after few years - who knows! it is just that my frequency has to match with his. there is something called societal obligations - but they can be overcomed. so what's in the age!

I think it totally depends on the age of the lady.
A 18 year old will certainly and most likely choose someone older or even their own age, but as we age in years... a whole new ballgame comes into play. I am thirty, even though I look 23, and I have men in every age group asking me out. I have had 18 & 19 year olds get pretty upset at why I didn't want to go out with them, but I have had ones nearly 50 not quite understand either. Preferably though, I would go with anyone (if I got along well with them) anywhere in the age group of 23-43. But even then, you will find that after time in dating them.... you will still have quite a few vast differences, opinions, and levels of experience, and may or may not find yourself compatable after all. My boyfriend now, is 41, and I think he is wonderful, funny, respectful, and still very hot. But sometimes it bothers me that he has already "done it all" if you know what I mean, but younger ones can sometimes still be trying to "experience it all", and so I feel there is no way to predict whether 2 people are compatable, until you have experienced it... regardless of age differences. We all have our own opinions, desires, and personalities which need to coincide, in any relationship.

When I was a teenager is was so much cooler to go out with a guy about 5 years older than you which is nothing now. A 5 year age gap to most people is practically no age gap. As long as its with an older person, I'm 22 and would not dream of going out with a 17 year old, but wouldn't think twice about going out with a 27 year old.
I don't know many guys my own age, the ones at my uni are idiots! Too image conscious etc. I wouldn't as a matter of fact not go out with someone of my age, its just they are usually not manly enough for my liking!

I've dated older, younger and same age and found that I prefer 'nice' men who treat me with respect and care. this is usually a product of their upbringing and attitude to life rather than age or income.

young women like older men but when they get older they prefer younger men. young women like mature women but when they get to 40 they feel young again going out with a 30 year old.
