Used to work in HR, good luck!. Be clear in your views on current affairs and be happy keep with your own view. Assessments and presentations are new so just try your best. Good Luck you will enjoy.

I used to work for the FCO. UK based but visiting Posts overseas (3 months per year) in a technical role.
Apart from the security and background checks they are looking for bright, intelligent, people who are good at working with others and who can express themselves clearly and unambiguously in writing and in speech. A balanced outlook on life and the ability to relate to other cultures is essential. The interviewers will be looking for evidence of all the above.
