Unfortunatlly in most states all a dog has to do is be in a livestock enclosure to be considered harrasing livestock.
If you get another dog i wold suggest a SMALL dog, not a high prey drive terrior, to reduce the threat perception.

So sorry. You will never be able to replace your dogs. And you may not even want to try right now. I know when I lost the last of my 4 dogs to old age, I just needed time to be alone. I didn't think that at that time I could even give another dog a fair chance. I'm sure I would have loved any other dog, but I didn't want to do anything but remember my dogs. It took me quite awhile, but everyone is different. Some people just need time. Eventually, I started looking at all the dogs at my local shelters through petfinder.com. One day I just woke up and felt better and was on my way to the Humane Society before I knew it. YOU, and only you, can decide when you're ready. Follow your heart. Good Luck. I'd check into your rights as far as that farmer goes.

Hard question to answer really. It's going to be up to you. Nothing can replace the pets you had. But if you love having pets another dog would be a nice addition. Yet it will not be the dogs that passed away. That hurt will be there for as long as you remember the dogs but it will get easier in time. Maybe you should wait a little until you are feeling a little better. It was a terrible thing that happened to your other pets. Definitely make sure that it can not happen again.. Did your neighbour get a fine for doing that? such a terrible thing. I am sorry for you.

My advise to you is this, new dogs will not ease the loss you feel for furry friends. Your heart will still feel heavy with sorrow. They will; however, give you companionship and loyalty. Make sure that you have the time, love and strength to deal with two new dogs. You have to ask your self another question too. Are you trying to replace these dogs or are you looking for the joy that they brought you? I still morn the loss of my wonderful dog, and he past away 6 years ago. Allow yourself some time to morn your dogs and in time, when your ready, get some new dogs, because a house is not a home with out at least one dog. Take care and I hope this has helped.

Wow, so sorry for your loss=( You can't ever "replace" a pet, but I found when my first dog had to be put down that the pain was a LOT easier to overcome when we got our current dog not long after. I would make sure that there is NO WAY that kind of tragedy can happen again even if you have to build a giant cage.

Its fine for you to decide that you want a new dog - but not while your so painfully mourning for a previous pet. You can't replace a pet, and you shouldn't even try, you'll only be disappointed. You may decide later that you don't want the dog, if your only getting one to help with the pain. Its not good, especially emotionally, for either you or any pet you may get.
Now that that's been said; I am very sorry to hear about what happened to your pets; its never easy.

Very sorry for your loss. Yes!!!!!!!!!!! I've had more animals in my life than I can remember so I speak from experience. A new puppy can't replace your other dogs, but he'll sure take your mind off it.Why did the farmer shoot them? Did he do it accidentally?I trained pilot dogs and every 6mos. I had to send one back and a month later I'd get a new puppy to train. It made it much easier.Good luck and God bless. Your dogs are happy and waiting for you in a better place.

There is not a state in the USA that it is legal to shoot a pet uness it is killing or harming livestock or humans..And proof of same must be available as evidence.. You should report the farmer to your local animal control or sheriff...They will likely give him a warning, unless he admits to the crime or you actually witnessed it...The warning should be enough to keep him from harming the next dogs.
If your fences are secure, new dogs will help fill the void.

Good luck and just dont try to forget about them because the pain is ten times worse when you suddenly remember them. So just take it slow and dont just jump into getting a puppy, just wait a little to get over the others ... i am, again very srry

it will help with the pain and ease it for a whiile but you will probably never really get over them. the "replacements" as you call it shouldnt be exactly that. It should be something to comfort you in the same way your past companion did.
