I also want to know what format is used in DVD/VCD players. I've tried out a few softwares, but they only allow you to convert the whole video if you register. Are there any free ones out there? Thanks!

remember that if you are trying to copy a commercial dvd then you will need decryption software which is probably illegal to use in your jurisdiction.

most dvd players play mpeg videos if you put them onto dick but it is best to download a free program of the internet

I use Nero to reencode and burn video files to DVDs that will play in mine.
