Hmm , for a 12 year old . Buy her something unique, something that not all girls of her age will have. Barbie dolls are too common and i don't think she will want to play with them in years to come . Perhaps an MP3 player or an IPOD if you really have the money. It's not common that all girls her age owns it. Try getting to know her personality abit better. If she is all girly, maybe you should buy her some make-up. If she loves music and loves to dance or wadsoever, an IPOD will make her feel great and make this birthday a memorable one !

buy her 2 tickets to a movie she wants to see, so she can bring a friend,
treat her to get her "nails done"
OR hair cut,
or if nothing sounds like her a gift certificate for her favorite store,,
and a nice card.
If you are rich, rent a limo surprise her, and take her to her favorite place to go so she can show off her great birthday experience.

U can save yourself the hassel and just ask her what she wants. And based on your budget, go with what she tells you she wants and go with what you can afford. Better to get her something you know she would like rather than giving her something you dont know if she would like., right?
