I started attending an independent Pentecostal church about eight years ago. Since this church is not associated with the UPC, I did not realize that it was a Oneness church until just recently as the pastor never talked about defending or 'attacking' the belief in the Trinity. However, I am a Trinitarian through and through. Should I stop attending this church, even though it has been my home church for a long time?

The church leadership is wonderful, but I disagree with the Oneness doctrine. It is about the only UPC doctrine that the church maintains, actually. I don't know if a disagreement over the validity of the Trinity is a big reason to leave. The church stands for absolute truth and the inerrancy of the Bible.

I was actually considering leaving the church earlier this summer before I found out about the Oneness doctrine. I was thinking about leaving because I need an accountability group with people around my age, not people twice or three times my age.

While you answer this question, please be aware that I realize that Yahoo! Answers should not and will not be the only resource I utilize in this instance. I am praying and studying diligently but I would like to know what other people in my situation would do.

If you were otherwise happy with your church, then I'd say stay -- your different beliefs co-existed peacefully for 8 years, so why not just accept the silent disagreement here.

That you feel a need to be around people your own age is probably more important. But does that necessarily mean leaving your church -- could you join a group elsewhere, at a local university (or is that too young?) maybe even the internet, which fills this need?

Will your church be open to you returning if you take some time to look elsewhere?

You shouldn't.
UPC churches are better than no church.
I had the same problem. I'm a trinitarian Pentecostal. I went to a UPC church until I found a trinitarian church that I really felt the Lord in. It is a great church and I now go there every Sunday. I tithe there also. I still talk to some of my friends from the UPC church... but.. There are a lot of things that I disagree with them about. That I studied out for myself.

They aren't evil or anything. A lot of people think that they are a cult. I know that they aren't... I think that they just interpret it differently.

St. John 1:1-2 says in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. Verse 14 then says and the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us...The book goes on to say in chapter 9 verse 58, "Jesus said unto them, verily, verily, I say unto you, before Abraham was, I am." There is but one Lord, one faith, and one baptism. I John 5:7, for there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and theses three are ONE. St. John 10:30, I and my Father are ONE.

Matthew 28:19, is a command (the great commission) to the disciples as well as all God's people to go out and preach His Word, baptizing those willing the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. If you notice the word name is singular. If there was 3 different people it would say names. This is common grammer. Because the word name is singular it indicates that the list following contain titles for that one name. Just like I am daughter, sister, friend; I still only have one name. There are three different manifestations of God, but still just one God. Talk to you pastor, find out what he has to say.

As a young person who has grown up in the P.A.W. and a diligent bible reader, I believe what I read and what God has revealed to me. There is nothing like personal revelation and having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Continue to seek God; seek and ye shall find. Continue to read the Word of God and believe it for what it says...completely.

How does a through and through trinitarian end up attending a UPC, oneness only, assembly? God has you there for a reason...open your eyes and see the salvation.

you should do what you think it right. I don't even think that organized religion should be allowed. It has been used though out history to persecute and mame and kill people on the basis of their religion. You should focus on your own spirituality. There is truly no way that one church can have the whole truth of what God wants us to know. Most church's really do limit the knowledge that you have by telling you that you are wrong for something that is beyond what they teach.

Find your own spirituality and don't let anyone tell you what is right or wrong. That is only between you and your version of God.

Blessed Be.

Don't let one point of doctrine drive you away from your spiritual home. No church is perfect.

Don't attend a church that teaches lies. Our God is a God of truth and by going there you are supporting false doctrines.

Ask your pastor about Matthew 28:19.
If he can give you a good answer that is acceptable to you stay.
If not, you gotta go.

Your church home should be where the HOLY SPIRIT leads you.

"for God so loved the Earth that he sent his only begotten son..."
I guess it's fair to argue that Jesus was a message, a pure example of holding to faith.
I am sure Jesus was a comfort to simple folk sent to fight Christian wars.
I don't believe God cares who you worship with, so you may feel free to choose.
