Strong aromas are caused by small particles in the air. When they get into your nose you sneeze. If they get past your nose they enter your lungs. The body gets rid of it by coughing. We cough whenever anything other than air goes into the lungs.

Because your eyes, ear, nose and throat are all connected. Smells hit the back of the throat and make you cough. If you see something gross you gag! Loud noises can make your nose itch in some people.
