Adopt. I look at this way...I'm not into AKC shows or breeding dogs, so what do I care about the "blood lines" of my dog for? I'm getting a pet.
If you do go with a breeder, you need to find a highly reputable one, and check out the blood lines they claim they have.
I find mixed breed dogs to have fewer genetic issues, as a rule. If you buy a purebred dog, you're going to have to assume that your chances of running into one of those genetic illnesses is higher (cancer of the spine in Boxers, allergies in poodles, and so on).

I have adopted and bought from a breeder. Good breeders do not make a profit, and usually help out rescues. They take back puppys or dogs for any reason, for the whole dogs life. As long as this is possible. A good breeder is never a bad thing. You know the pup will be in good health, and the parents well taken care of.
As for adoption, well I've done this too, and its very rewarding. Just sometimes its hard to find the dog you want as most are huge shep crosses(in my experience).
Its completely dependant on opinion, but I've done both. And either can be a good choice.

I've done both. And the adopted dogs were healthier, and had a much happier temperment that the purebreds. My last few have been adopted or from a Breed Rescue site. If people are looking for a particular breed, try the Breed Rescue sites. They have wonderful, beautiful dogs that for one reason or another were either taken away or surrendered by owners. You can get exactly what you are looking for, and you are still adopting. Cost is roughly the same.
Rescue groups have you fill out an application, do references, etc., and do a home visit , sort of like a shelter. Either way, you are saving a life of a dog, that needs a home, and love-***

Adopt one from your local shelter. I've never once adopted a dog that I was disappointed with. Why buy one from a breeder when there are so many lovable animals that already needs homes. I really believe you have a special connection with a dog or cat you rescue out of the animal shelter. No telling what those poor things have already been through, then they sleep and are stuck in those cold, lonely cages 24/7. Now how much would you love someone that rescued you from all that??? Good place to find a best friend!!! And to be truthful, I have never met a rescue or shelter dog without tons of love and tons of personality!!

Adopt, I have always adopted but right now I have a lab from a local breeder and a mixed breed part boxer from the pound. The only difference apart from personalities which are both great is the cost.

That is something only you can truly answer.
You should get the dog you would most like to have and appreciate. Don't be made to feel guilty with either decision. This dog will be a 10yr plus commitment and it would be best fulfilled if it is truly the choice you wanted.
I think that their is not one perfect answer anyway. It takes time and energy to get the "WONDER DOG" we all love. Whether it is pure bred or mixed breed, he/she will be yours to love and share with.
I have English Bulldogs, it took about 18 months of love and patience to truly get the big lazy lovers I expected. It is also not a dog for anyone who doesn't expect vet bills! That is another thing to take into consideration. Some breeds are veterinarians dreams or some need much exercise and so on.
Again, that is why only YOU can make the best decision.
Good luck!

Adopt, these animals are on their last legs, they were once someones pet, now they live in a cage, very little attention ( less than a homed dog) they dont know what has happened to them and all they REALLY want is someone to love, adopt..always..adopt

i always adopted my pets. when u adopt a cat or dog, it saves there life. u can get a pure bred from a breeder, but u end up spending up to 1200 dollars. if u ask me, that's a lot of money, but i know people who would do it. either way u get an animal that will love u for the rest of his (her) life. but i would rather adopt one and save his life :)
good for u !! u helped to save their lives, it's a very good deed :D

Most of my pets have been adopted and my dad was a breeder so I have had both. But I would rather have a Heinz 57 mix than a pure breed anyday.

Adopt is my choice.
Put it in a human perspective,
Would you rather adopt a child or buy one from a breeder?
