Usually it makes your cockatiel more hormonal and nippy, my friend had the same problem with his tiel, I told him to let the bird have 12 hours of uninterupted sleep. And in a week his behavior was back to his normal freindly self.
Also captive pet birds do take naps usually in the middle of the day for a period of time, the older the bird the more often they nap.
Also some individual birds need or dont require as much sleep as others.
Observe your cocoaktiels behavior is she as sweet and as affectionate as she was before is she more nippy or aggressive?

Remember think of your bird before you make a change in your life and how your bird will feel.
I hope this helps

I find if my guys get 8 hours of sleep or less, they're slammed into breeding mode. I end up with a lot of eggs, tons of birdy attitude and lots of midnight serenades when my breeding pair does the horizontal tango, LOL! It's hard on their bodies, too, just like if humans don't get enough sleep. They can become cranky as a result. You can fix that problem by covering the cage, if you don't already, and keep the lights off in their room for a few hours longer each day. That way they'll ignore the sun rising and they'll get at least some nap time before they officially wake up in the morning :-) .
Hope that helps!

My tiels dont get much sleep either, but they rest during the day when Im gone. The only thing I know would be a problem is that they are stimulated to breed when not getting a full 12 hours. But I dont worry, as mine dont breed. But females will lay eggs, and if they lay too often they could become egg bound and calcium dificiant. My birds get fresh foods everyday, and seeds, so they are fine. Just make sure yours get a full and balanced diet and they will be fine.

I only get about 3-4 hours an nighttime, if that because it truly is finals week and that i spend all of my time interpreting ineffective ideas. i'd pick to get a minimum of 8, yet which couldn't ensue till the summer.

Just grouchyness. When you want him to sleep just put a dark sheet over the cage, the bird sees"night" and sleeps, no matter how much noise there is.

I keep mine in a good routine. But they still nap. I wouldn't worry. Mine just started laying eggs. We bought a small room you can attach to the cage. Do you think they will hatch. Anyways it keeps them busy.
