Why wait till after the wedding? Consider the vacation a "honeymoon". That way instead of leaving right after the wedding for a honeymoon you could spend time with family and friends who came for the wedding. Besides if you only have 6 months before the wedding you will enjoy the time off to relax before the wedding with just your fiance and no distractions.... Soon enough you will be overwhelmed with things to take care of.
I have seen many people wait till after the wedding to go away and most tell me the first 2 days were just sleeping!!! Enjoy each other whenever you can.
Besides now there are so many affordable options for weddings you do not need to spend a lot to have a beautiful wedding. I should know I am an event planner.......

it the trip is a dream go for it. You are always going to regret not taking it as you age in life.
you can make your wedding very simple, YOu can find a very simple dress....like usig a bridesmaid dress for yourself in white
Have the brides maids all wear the same color dresses of their choice. YOu can get unexpensive flowers.
YOu dn't need to serve dianner. Brain storm and figure out how to make it a good day for you all
How abuot the guys wear jeans, all alike, and fancy white shirts.
the bridesmaids long jean skirts and pretty white blouses with white embrodery The Bride wear an white ilot skirt with pretty cotton top. Be barefoot at the beach or lake. YOu could make it a pot luck. Just anything to keep cost down
Life is too short to not know happienss

have the trip as the honeymoon. keep in mind though..you'll always be able to go on trips but you only have one wedding. at least YOU hope you only have one wedding. if you've already set a budget for the wedding and have enough now to meet it, then use the money for the honeymoon. but why cut it close? at least wait until after the wedding and see if you've got money for an after-honeymoon honeymoon.

Have a civil ceremony and a small reception in 5-6 months and have an early honeymoon when your fiance gets home . . . it's the best of both worlds!
Good luck!

If you've been looking forward to the vacation, then you should take it. You could even elope on the trip! You'd have your vacation, wedding, and honeymoon all as one.

Go on a cheaper trip, use the money for the wedding. Actually, use the money for the marriage, eg. house downpayment or furniture.
