I am an atheist and I discourage people from becoming atheists or giving up their religion unless they independently decide to do so.

Most of us are social animals and carefully construct an environment that suits our needs. And, if any of our illusions are taken away, it can have negative consequences.

I promote atheism, but I do not oppose religion or God belief.

They all serve their own unique purposes for the individuals who choose to follow those paths.

I've been on both sides of the fence.I personally did find true happiness when I decided to follow the words and the ways of Christ.I'm not saying I'm perfect,far from it,but I try hard every day to make God proud.There is a big difference between worship and religion.

By religion do you mean laws and tradition? Like Jesus says MK 7:8 You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men."
MK 7:9 And he said to them: "You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions! 10 But you say that if a man says to his father or mother: `Whatever help you might otherwise have received from me is Corban' (that is, a gift devoted to God), 12 then you no longer let him do anything for his father or mother. 13 Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like that."
"...Nullify the word of God by your tradition..."
Religion = tradition.
Hapiness would be found best by limiting religion. Laws and practices that make no human sense. Have no parallel to reality.
Give it up........and be set free.
Set free from religion = hapiness
Set free from traditions = hapiness
Set free from law = hapiness
Observe,Think,Doubt, Ask, Learn...........become an atheist.
atheist = without religion
'Set Free' does not = Do away with altogether.

Do you personally know anyone who has found "true happiness?"

But my answer is yes, it would be earier to find true happiness without religion.

Religion is a man-made corruption of a relationship with the Savior, Jesus Christ. Once you throw off the rules and regulations that are imposed by men, you are free to experience the joy of a relationship with your creator.

It is God-Jesus-You, not God-Jesus-Religion-You. "There is one mediator between God and men. The man, Jesus Christ, who gave himself as a ransom for all men." (1 Timothy 2:5-6) This is important to know.

It may be for some people, but others need that specific person or thing to believe in to feel better about themselves while on earth...........My PERSONAL belief is this, when we decide to err in life, we suffer our own consequences, therefore we punish ourselves.......God is God no matter what you call it.......Allah, mohammed, Jesus............And these are all forgiving and all knowing and the same being.........Religion was made by mortals who disagreed with other mortals about rules that should be followed to worship God..........The main point is, that we do our BEST to be the people that we were meant to be while on this earth................Take care................

I think you mean without a church or congregation? Without strict sect wide rules? Only the rules you think are appropriate? ya......that's called Neo-Paganism. Not trying to convert anyone...just saying....it's already out there.

There are branches of paganism, such as Wicca that have specific rules.....some Wiccan followings more than others. But not all pagans have that. Also, there are groups that work together.....but many, like myself choose to be solitary.

Not for me. My religion gives me the guidelines and methods to develop closer relationships with my deities. It is also a nice tool to meet others with a like mind to learn.

Jesus never promised us true happiness here on earth. No, instead He said, " I have told you this so that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have trouble, but be courageous-I have overcome the world!" (John 16:33)
