There is a barrel with no lid and some wine in it. "This barrel of wine is more than half full," said Curly. "No it's not," says Mo. "It's less than half full."
Without any measuring implements and without removing any wine from the barrel, how can they easily determine who is correct?

if you tip it slightly and look at the bottom of the barrel, and you can see some of the bottom, it is less than half full.

They would not need a traditional measuring implement. Take a piece of string/clothing/rope and hold it next to the barrel to determine the barrel's height. Fold it in half and make a knot/identifying mark, straighten it out again, and voila, you'll be able to see where the wine level is in relation to the "halfway" marker. Does this make sense??

Since the barrel has no lid, that means it is open on top. Just look inside and see where the level is. :-)
