i found this stray cat almost two months ago and the reason i have had her so long is because when she came to me she was pregnant. now, i just wanted to keep them just until they were done feeding off of the mother and then take them to the humane society. anyways, i found out that the mother cat has worms. can she give them to her babys? can it be fatal for them? one of the babys is acting sick and im just worried.

yes, she can give the kittens worms. I don't remember if you can wor a nursing mother or not, but you can call your vet and ask. If you can, find them a home instead of the Humane Society, because if the Humane Society gets full, it will put the animals down. You might be able to find a "No Kill" shelter though in your area... Best of luck to you and the kitties

Yes the kittens can get worms. This is very common especially with strays. Worms are easily treated. Call a vet for some medicine. You might have to take the mom in to get it. The humane society might help with resources. Call them. When you say a kitten seems sick, what do you mean?

Worms (Round worms) in strays are very common, and are not deadly. After Momma is done nursing the kittens and the kittens are @ least 8 weeks old you can "worm" them. (The worms come from fleas) The kittens will probably get them too. However, I would take them to the Vet @ your Humane society. They usually offer excellent health care for the animals. Getting momma fixed doesn't cost alot and its one of the best places to take the kittens to be adopted

Yes usually the kittens are born with worms but not all of them are fatal. I suggest talking to a vet at your local shelter or find a low cost vet would be the best solution. However, you can buy a dewormer kit when the kitties are old enough (usually 8 weeks) and you can worm them using the instructions. But giving kittens to shelter may not be the best idea as they may be put to sleep or sold to research dealers. Find a no kill shelter or put your kitty for adoption via online classified ads. I think buybelowcost.com or petfinder.org have free cat adoption pages where you can post ads or find other online / local ads postings. My suggestion would be wait till they are 12 weeks before considering adoptions. It'll give the mom enough time to love and teach her kittens.

It is very common for all felines to get worms and they are easily treated. I had a stray that didn't show worms for a few months. I was told that any kitten that nursed at all would get them, it was not unusual.

As far as the little one, I'm not sure what you mean by acting sick... is he/she just the smallest one of the litter? Does he/she get pushed away from nursing? Hard to help on that one without more info.

Kittens sometimes are born with them, I would call the vet's office and just ask. Good Luck. I don't know where you live but here, the animal control would kill them it is in Hammond In. I hope you have a decent humane society there that will care if you can't afford to take it to the vets. Some vets will offer help and provide medication as long as you pay for the med, but if one is acting sick, he or she may want to see it.

well since Im not too sure how bad off the mother at is I would say your best bet its to maybe purchase a dewormer but first chck to be sure its safe to give to nursing cats & at what age the kittens can be given the dewormer themselves.....dewormer is not expensive & can be found at pet stores & most grocery stores too, you just put it in their wter & your good to go......jsut be sure to chck that its safe to give a nursing mama kitty!! good luck! if you can give it to the mama due to the breat feeding try given you local vet a call they should be able to help you out!! best of luck!!
