It isn't 'bad' at all--it's controlled by politics, money, and plain old greed. A government can make far more money, surreptitously, off a relatively harmless natural substance like this which has some medicinal value, than they could if it were 'legal'. Because it is NOT a drug, but is totally natural, it cannot be patented! So, the only OTHER way to make money off it, is to force it onto the black market!
Yes, there are plenty of 'drug busts' where it is found and supposedly 'destroyed'. Lots of people get prison sentences for 'possession' and 'sale of a controlled substance', but personally, I think that is all some kind of phoney 'front'. What a waste, criminalizing something not nearly so harmful, as tobacco and cigarettes! Like I said, though. Politics, and money. Plus, the greed of those 'powers that be' who go about these things in their usual 'bass-ackward' fashion.

It's the ways that people have come to use this plant that make it bad. Yes it is a plant.. but so is opium.. and it's bad too. It used to be used for medicines and spiritual ceremonies by the Native American Indians of Canada, but then white man came along and abused it's use.. any mind/body altering "thing" and if you say that Pot doesn't alter your mind or body.. then you haven't tried it.. or you're lying.. has no place in a person's everyday life.. Perhaps if the "plant" wasn't abused, it wouldn't be illegal.. but alas.. the human race finds something.. abuses it.. and then wonder why they're not allowed to have it anymore.

It's not bad for you (besides the lungs, of course). Anything you use in excess will harm you. Drink to much water and you get sick and possibly die. How many overdoses have you heard of from weed? I have heard of none. There are also very few (if any) times I have heard of anyone going on violent rampages on the stuff. Also, weed does not make you lazy if you aren't a lazy person to begin with. I am NOT condoning its use because it is illegal and as one writer wrote, very hard to get a good job when you smoke the stuff.

This comes from a life-long smoker of 35 years: It cost about $200 an ounce, $25-75 an 1/8th, when you don't have it you go looking, you are jepordizing your ability to get a decent job, pass drugs tests and to keep your criminal record clean. It makes you dizzy on hot days, it turns you into an a$$hole when you don't have it. But you say it's your medicine? because you smoke and it mellows you? then, no offense intended please, you need therapy to deal with your anger issues. Other than that, it's fine. I finally quit but felt the same before I did.

Many of the drugs used to treat illnesses are extracted from plants. Its the chemical in the plant that causes you to get high.

Weed is a drug.
Is it a bad drug, like opium or cocaine? It depends on you. It's not as addictive to most people as those other two, but that's not what determines if its bad or not. Also, let's forget about legal issues. What matters is you and your health.
Can you study on weed? Can you really communicate with people? Hmmm..
Consider what you mean by bad.

The biggest reason for this is because people drive after smoking and run a family off the road killing them all instantly and they don't even realize it. They get stupid because they cannot find the weed and get the gun and wave it at the people around until they end up accidentally shooting someone, it makes them fat and lazy, and all together worthless if they let it.

It's not really bad at all. It's just the political implications of making illegal provided more benefits to the parties in control in America at that time.
That's what it's all about now a days too. If the benefit to the government in making a law is higher than not making it a law they will pass it, no matter how wrong or unconstitutional it is. PATRIOT ACT cough cough....

after reading all of these informative answers, you should conclude that weed is both a plant and a drug.

Poison Ivy is also a plant so why don't you go take off all your clothes and go roll in a field of Poison Ivy for an hour or so.
(The scary thing is when you are high you may actually think this is a good idea.)
Anymore really stupid questions?
