There are sooo many homeless, or otherwise street peddlers (beggars), that need help, but some could be scammers as well, so since we don`t know the difference, many times we won`t give them our money , But what is that one thing, they can say that will move you to give them at least a dollar or two, or more?

NOTHING--I grew up in New York City and I will not give a homeless person money. There are other ways to help. Food is always a good choice--if they are not tryna scam---they'll accept a donation of food. Clothes are also a good donation.Blankets. Razors. Soap.

I've never given $ to a street peddler, but my bf has given a buck or food to a woman before. He says he feels sorrier if the peddler's a woman because he doesn't see many female peddlers, and "what if she has kids and is just going thru a rough patch?"

As long as they are honest. when i lived in chicago there was a guy who would always sit outside of the House of Blues and ask for change stating that he was going to the liqour store...i gave him atleast three dollars everytime i went to a show there. not to say that every person who asks for change is going to use it for alcohol or drugs, but as long as they are honest i will give what i can. People would always be outside the train station asking for money for their fare to get home, but its hard for me to beleive that so many people would go into the city with out the money to get back.

I appreciate honesty. When they say, "I just wanna get drunk", I usually will give them a buck b/c at least they're not stealing and at least they're being honest. The ones that say they want money for food get an extra value meal or something instead of cash b/c when you see their disappointment at getting a free meal, you know they wanted to get drunk or high, but they were lying to do it.
