"Wrong" is a value judgment usually taught to us by age 4. Our caretakers teach us what's okay and what's not. Wrong is different from person to person. The law has that word in some of our rules and people can get in big trouble for not knowing when wrong happened! Given that as my basis for this answer, I believe a person actually knows if he/she has a morbid sense of humor that crosses the lines of decency/non decency. Perhaps it's the environment one tells the morbid jokes in and their acceptance/non acceptance. Many comedians make a living using morbidity as the topic of jokes, and some just go as far as their audience will accept. After all, if the audience likes it, he will make more $$$ and be asked to return. Sometimes money is at the root of everything and I believe it even goes back to a sense of humor being appropriate or not. One should always have good boundaries and know when to tell morbid jokes. I would hope a sense of decency prevails and allows the teller the good sense to end it if people are offended. We always want to be aware of the saying, "we don't need to burn any bridges," as we don't know who might be our employer or coworker someday. If we offend them, we might not get or keep the job we wanted. The cause and effect of morbid humor could be far reaching, so the one using should have a super sense of boundaries.

I think as long as you are sensitive to others feelings it is okay. Sometimes that's just how we deal with horrible things. We try to lighten up the situation with humor.
