Sometimes when I'm asleep, my cat will start attacking my head. He bites my hair and kicks and scratches my head until I put him in another room and close the door. When I pull him off of me, sometimes he bites my arms.It isn't b/c he needs anything, I've checked his bowl and litterbox. He's never gotten aggressive with me at any other time, only when I'm asleep.

You're cat's young, right? Because it sure sounds like it.
Even if he isn't young anymore, even an older cat will have a go at kittenish games once in a while - and that's really what it is. He's playing with you, just like he'd play with his siblings or bigger cats he knows. He goes for the head because of your hair, its most like fur, and the most appealing place for him to jump on - if your hair is long, it might also be that your hair moves around a little as you move in your sleep (everyone knows that kittens + movement = pounce!) The kicking at your head's a part of their games, and he bites your arms because, when you lift him off, he thinks your playing back.

You sleep at night, and cats are pretty nocturnal. As well as this, cats nap throughout the day and night, waking up at all hours between. When a kitten's awake, he wants to play, simple as that.

He's bored. Cats are often more active at night (throw back to nature and hunting stuff) he wants your attention to come and play with him. Sometimes by getting a bit more agressive than normal it is his way of trying to change the dominance in the house also. You are the boss but he wants to be.

try getting him some new toys and also remain firm and put him on the floor when he bites you too hard. He ahs to remembe who is boss.

When my cat was a kitten/young cat she used to do that! I would wake up to the sounds of her above me on the pillow, eating/biting/pawing on my hair! When I would try to get up or move her she would get wildly playful. I think they must like the smell of something in the hair products we use? She is 7 now and doesnt do that anymore. She is a sweet snuggly kitty in bed.

I solved this problem by playing with my kitty just before bed. I used a fishing pole with a cat toy on the end. I kept casting and he would run after it with great enthusiasm. I would keep this up until he was panting and wouldn't run after it any more. He slept like a log after that. :) He will eventually grow out of this and adapt some other weird trait. ;)

That is normal, one of my cats love to chew on my hair when he has gotten a chance to get above my head, but he never meant to attack, he was just playing. I stopped him by using the spray bottle method, he eventually quit the habbit.

yeah my friends cat did that for a while then he just grew out of it hopefully yours will too!! then he started to again then once again he got shut out of the room, now he doesn't do it at all just make him realize that it's not good, get a squirt bottle or something and that'll help and let you sleep, just sit up when he starts to do it so your arms don't get scratched and squirt him that'll make him run and well end up stoppin
have fun with that

Yes, that is normal. Cats do the same thing with other cats when they want to play. Get your cat declawed and it should lessen the pain.

He obviously wants your attention. I had a cat who used to do that. So when I had to pet him till he fell a sleep (usually on my tummy).. Your cat could be lonely or on heat.. Get him neutered and or find him a wife :P..

Yeah, some of them go through that. They sleep so much of the time, guess they just wake up and want you to get up and play

Do your cat a favor and give it to someone else....It is basically telling you that he doesn't like you and wants you gone..hence the attacks..good luck
