Because their country sucks. It is utterly corrupt from the top to bottom and the average citizen has no way of ever getting ahead in such a society. Mexico is run by 32 families with roots going back hundreds of years. They control all the money, power, government and land. They are never going to let Juan Q. Average get anywhere because it would diminish their stranglehold on power. A Mexican illegal alien can make 10X the money in the US that he makes in Mexico. Of course, you go where the money is...

Mexico is a lot like a Third World country. Those in authority are extremely corrupt (follow the news on the Mexican border towns). The rich are EXTREMELY rich and miserly and the poor are EXTREMELY poor and destitute. And there is no middle class.

I'm not surprised by the current problems with the Mexican presidential elections.

I have friends who are from Mexico (who teach at the U. of Mexico branch in my U.S. city) who will vouch for the statement that Mexican police and other authorities are VERY corrupt.

I understand why they seek a better life. They need to come and apply for citizenship, though, and not just sneak in then demand all the same rights as U.S. citizens.

Why did your ancestors hate where they came from so bad? Should you go back there?

Wrong question, again.

My ancestors all came here before the US was even a nation. They crossed a dangerous ocean in an age before steamships or airplanes and when they got off the boat had only days of hard labor to look forward to. They left behind nearly all they had, including their families, behind. Their money was of little use.

Compare that to what immigrants face today: if they're illegal their trip may be difficult, but the amount of risk they face after they get here is *nil.* The only risk is that they might only make 5 times what they made in their homeland instead of 10. Healthcare, education, police protection, and a whole lotta other things are provided gratis.

They don't hate Mexico, they just love the prospect of a more glamorous life more than they love their country.
Many people make a big deal out of the fact that that Mexican minimum and average wages are so low. They neglect to take into account that the cost of living is also extremely low in Mexico. No one with a job in Mexico is going to starve to death. But they might have to live in a cinderblock house, eats beans and tortillas every day, and never own an automobile. They see rich people on TV and want to live like that.
So they come to the United States and discover the wonder of credit. In Mexico they owned their cinderblock house free and clear, but in the US they can go into debt to buy a big sheetrock house and never pay it off. In Mexico they bought their beans and tortillas with cash, but in the US they buy food and clothing on credit and never pay off their credit card bills. Here in the US they can have a car and also never own it free and clear.
Summary: In Mexico they can survive, no doubt about it. But in the US they can live large.

They don't hate Mexico, they wave the Mexican flag over the US flag.

America gives them WELFARE, AID, FOOD STAMPS.

In Mexico they get S*it!

In MExico at the age of 15 you get $5 a day.

America should DEMAND they give up MEXICAN CITIZENSHIP

America should DEMAND they give up WELFARE and AID, until they've paid at least 10 years worth of taxes.

America should REQUIRE they speak AMERICAN, english!

But America is too chicken s*it to do that, plus the free trade agreement gives Hilton the right to own hotels in MExico without a Mexican partner and Sunkist can own lands without a Mexican Partner and use DDT on their oranges without any EPA warning(DDT causes cancer and is banned in the US)!

That's reality.

Check it out, you'll find I'm totally right!

Mexican's don't hate Mexico they just don't have the same opportunities there as they do here. Just because people come to this country does not mean they hate their home land!

Says who? Did you know that the people that come here illegaly try to come over here because they send money back to their families in Mexico? These people come because they cant make as much money as they can here. Thats it. For the rest of the country, they CHOOSE to stay there because they have a better living than here in the U.S. You see america only receives the certain type of people from Mexico. Trust me Mexico even gets them a how to booklet to get out of their country not to get them in the U.S.

It's not that they hate Mexico, they love their country; just as we do ours. The country does not provide them with the opportunities that we are so fortunate to have. Alot of them would stay and try to make it in Mexico, but with what? If you want your child to have a good education down there you have to come up with the money to send them to a private school, their public education is not like ours. There isn't jobs waiting to be filled down there either. How would you like if there was nothing to do all day long, day in and day out. Wouldn't you want to make something of yourself. Wouldn't you want to do something productive with your time. The US gives them that opportunity, where there country does not.
