Hmmm... I am gonna try to keep my response short and sweet, but thats gonna be tough.

First of all, when the books in the bible were written, who knows what was actually true.? What were eyewitness events that were written down immediately and never re-translated, and which were stories that got handed down, over and over again... leading to false interpretations of what actually hapened?

With that said, who the heck does anyone actually know who has been spoken to by God? Everything in the bible is a first- or second- or third- (or even further handed down) story. Just because someone wrote it doesnt mean its true.

And its definitely something to question when a lady who murders her children in the present day claims it to be a message from God that prompted her to do so.

Its much easier for someone to just say, "It was divined!" than to admit that theyre just a freakin nut... especially when there's a death sentence on the way.

Fact fiction... take their word for it or not? Its all held in faith I guess.

This is the stupidest question I've ever seen on here.
God didn't tell Andrea Yates to sacrifice her children. If that were true, where was the substitute sacrifice as there was with Abraham? In the toilet? Too bad she missed it.

I know a lot of women, myself included, who suffered from post-partum depression. None of us felt the need to kill our children. Andrea Yates made the cold blooded decision to kill her children, one by one. She should not be alive today, she deserves the death penalty.

No, God did NOT tell Andrea Yates to sacrifice her children. God STOPPED Abraham from sacrificing his son. That was a test in that situation.

God tested Abraham's faith and stopped him from the actual sacrifice. Andrea Yates has problems. Why would God want her to kill her children? She is a murderer.

Maybe, Abraham was schizo, too. A lot of schizos are really good leaders. Look at Hitler. Do you think he started out killing Jews? How did he convince an entire country to follow his way of thinking? The Germans are not dumb people. They have invented some of the greatest creations of all time (the printing press!) Hitler took them out of a horrible depression. Many were in disbelief that their beloved leader could be responsible for such an astrocity, killiing Jews, disabled, Blacks, Christians (yes, Christians) and those who knew what Hitler was doing and did not pledge allegiance were killed. Didn't Abraham get angry also and have those killed who were not faithful? So are you saying that we should have supported Hilter?

First off when was it said that God told her to kill her children in cold blood? She said she was suffering from post partum depression from what I remember about the story. And why would Christians or anyone for that matter "support" a woman who killed not only one but 5 of her children? Does it seriously make sense to you to condone that sort of thing no matter who "told" her to do it...she was an adult, those children were innocent victims who didn't deserve to be put through something like that. Can you imagine what those children were thinking as she put them in the tub and RAN after two that got away from her? It is murder no matter how you look at it. I personally think our justice system and society all together let woman use the PPD line too often, not taking anything away from the disease or anyone who had it, but she had plenty of time to get help for that before she did something so drastic...it angers me to think that she may be "let off" in a sense because of it. When you harm a child it is eye for an eye...do unto others as you would have done to you...isn't that somewhere in the BIBLE...she didn't drown herself now did she. To think that someone would "support" her for what she did is absurd and repulsive.

God also sent an angel to stop Abraham. I guess Andrea wasn't listening.

How could a loving god ask a woman to murder her innocent children? We aren't living in the old testament. Didn't Jesus supposedly die for us so that we didn't have to make sacrifices like that? I believe in a god of love, not a god of destruction.
