Finally a good question...thanks
Muslim POV...We say God fearing because through the fear of God we recognize his powers and abilities, therefore, we try to do our best to do good and forbid evil. We are encouraged to fear God as much as we can. We are also encouraged to know that God is oft-forgiving, most merciful in order not to go to extremes. Usually people go to the other extreme and say "oh don't worry God will forgive you" But God is also severe in punishment. We walk with the balances of Fear of punishment and His mercy, and forgiveness. Otherwise we will lose all hope and give up his laws.

To fear God in the Bible means to be in AWE of God. A God fearing person thinks God is Awesome totally.

What we fear is what God will do if we choose to deny him.
Like any obedient child, we fear our parents reaction to the things that we do wrong. There would be no obedience without some sort of fear over the disobedience.

Because fear is a method of control, and the church would like nothing more than to be able to control every aspect of everyones life... God fearing is their method, and unfortunately it works.

There is a righteous fear that we should have of going against his will. Not terror, but fear. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom..
Rev 6:8 And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

It comes from a primitive view of the divine as a ruler or king, who could be obeyed and/or feared. With the classes of Jesus, a clean version of the divine became into presented, the loving father. right here there is not any reason to concern. Sin exists to establish which you in looking who and what you're. This discovery finally ends up in the genuine recognition of God's love and forgiveness. The suffering that we undergo as a results of our sins brings us closer to the suffering of Jesus. In different words, we study via failing. It and you're all component of God's plan. there is not any longer something to concern, and each thing to love. Kuma

No, you shouldn't necessarily "fear" God. That's not what people mean when they say it--it's like old school for meaning that you respect God and understand that he is your savior.
