Atheists are just like any other person. You get some nice ones. You get some rude ones.

Well your politeness precedes you here.....
You are trying so hard not to offend an atheist yet you say you are a Christian? You are making excuses for a believe that against YOURS.
No matter rather you are atheist or Christian or whatever you should stand by what you believe in.
My take on your question is that atheist have to fight harder to uphold what they believe in since the common factor of Jesus, Jehovah, Buddha, Mother Mary and Jehovah are more predominant beliefs then atheism. But they are NOT "unusually intelligent people" they are as defensive as any other means of
spirituality. But perhaps lack the respect of others who do not believe what THEY believe.
They may seem rude because of their struggle to get their beliefs heard. Unlike Christianity that is so well practiced throughout the world.
If you get picked on then join the crowd of spiritualism on all levels. There will always be those that don't agree with someone else's religious views.
Isn't that why religion is the topic of so many conversations, questions and debates?

No more so than anyone else.
Athiests tend to value intelligence and the ability to think for themselves, and too many of the people who post here are all "if u r an athiest u r dum and why don't u no u will burn in hell!" types. That's pretty much guaranteed to get a challenge from the athiests because so many of the people who are the loudest about what good Christians they are, are the ones who think the least about what being Christlike means and the most about doing just what the preacher says the Bible says.
Plus, it's hard to stay patient when you see yet another "u r so dum bcuz u don't agree wit us" post when that's the gist of half the threads in R&S.

I don't think atheists are any more rude than anyone else. They seem to say things just to stir up controversy, usually aimed at Christians, but they're not the only ones that are rude. I've seen plenty of Christians that are rude as well. Christians are very rude sometimes when it somes to blaming atheists for everything...like if you're for separation of churhc and state, then your'e an atheist and that's not completely true. I'm a Christian and I believe in seperation of church and state. I don't think being an atheist, Christian, Jew or Muslim automatically makes you a rude person.

It all depends on the person. Just like christians atheists can be nice or rude, small or big, tall or short. It all depends on the person. It maybe that they are comming across rude but are not meaning to because many atheists are very blunt about all subjects. I know I am like that. But I have some atheist friends who are very nice and sugar coat things. I never do so I would probably be considered a rude atheist. But again it all depends on the person.

Yeah! some are, but then again I met some rude so called Christians too. I guess everyone has some kind of rude in them.
But Hey I am a believer all the way.
Jesus Christ is LORD Period.
I am starting to wounder where the real Church is?
This is what I say to allllll the Atheists out there.
I would rather live my life as if there is a
God, and die to find out there isn't, Than
live my life as if there isn't, and die to find out there is.
God Bless

The best way to make a person angry is to tell him an unwanted truth.
Try it in real life sometime and see what happens.
I am an atheist and when I state "God does not exist," or "religion relies on superstition & ignorance," it is not my intent to insult, or be rude.
Those are honest, factual statements that cannot be rephrased to be polite and also be accurate.
I occasionally amuse myself if a person is particularly obnoxious by being more blunt than usual, but for the most part, manners have nothing to do with my comments or questions, one way or another.

They can be.
And if you are a Christian, why would you not expect to be
'picked on?'
Atheists are many type of people. They just have an ability to fool themselves into thinking that they have it all figured out. Some think that they are smarter than anybody else. Some with the reasoning that being Atheist is a mark of that.

Myself and all the atheists i know personally are very polite people. We are easily frustrated however when we run into someone who has their head so messed up by the church that they have gone completely insane and no longer have a mind of their own... This scares me and i may sound rude by denying all that but it's only because i know that there is much more evidence supporting what people have worked hard to find out, and people will not recognize it because they are afraid to let go of what their family or their church has pounded into their brains all their life.

I've met some awfully rude Atheists. But I've met some awfully rude other people too! I think perhaps what strikes believers as rude is just bluntness a lot of the time.
I've also met some very kind Atheists. I'm not sure there's a trend one way or the other.

Everyone is rude on occasion, but you seem to see more of it when the issues being discussed are defined mostly by opinion parading as either logic or faith!
You didn't really ask what we thought about it, but your question made me start thinking about the whole religion issue and the way people behave due to their opinions.
I think it is all pretty silly myself... If you look at the bigger picture of chaos and order it is apparent that there is a pattern to it all. Call it what you will... Universal Energy, God, Great Spirit, Allah, What IS or just plain old WOW! It goes way beyond all the various dogmas and our foolish arrogance in thinking we (Any of us!) have the answers. All 3.5 billion of us don't amount to a hair on the behind or our own universe and it is only one of who knows how many... Kinda puts it all in perspective for me at least. :)
