I do love babies, but my neighbour has a new baby that really looks like an 80-year old melted E.T. How can i tell her nicely that she has a sweet baby?

sounds like you have the same problem I do.... a difficult time lying even when its a harmless one like this... some people think there are no ugly babies.... but I've seen them.... and can verify they do exist..lol.... some how I just would not be able to say "what a beautiful baby" when I'm really thinking it looks like a melted E.T....in cases such as this I would skirt around and say everything and anything besides comment on its looks...I might even practice what I would say a few times just to make sure my own expressions don't give me away! this is what I would do... I would greet the mom and congratulate her on the birth of her E.T.... err I mean baby... then look at the baby ( here is where that face practicing comes in handy) say" awwwwww what a wonderful healthy baby!!" if your religious or she is can you can say " god bless you both!"..and pray that you are not subjected to photo albums as little E.T. grows....lol...

Try to avoid any compliments regarding the baby's looks. Just relay your blessings. If the baby's mother asks you about how cute it is or what not, she's already sure her baby is the cutest thing in the world--asking you may be a way of reveling in the bliss of being a mother, so you might just want to ease a comment that's understanding of whatever the mother might see that you might not see. Just confirm her bubbly feelings (i.e. she/he's precious. etc)

You might even one day look back and talk freely of the E.T. stage later down the road without getting clawed by a happy mother.

I run into this myself even when babies don't look like melted ETs, because I'm just not a tiny baby person. They get cuter after they're a few months old, but at first - nah.

Do I lie? Nope. My stand responses include things like, How precious! Oh my goodness, look at the sugar on those cheeks/legs! Can I see his/her cute little ties? What bright eyes! Have you ever seen anything so sweet in all your life? etc, etc...

If you get a silly grin on your face, make it because of something the baby did or have some pre-thought idea of a cute baby related story to tell that "just came to mind." (Technically that wouldn't be a lie, would it? After all, it did come to mind after you were caught grinning!)

Come on - You can do it!

you may congratulate them via fact the numerous factor right this is that the toddler became into carried to term and born wholesome. Even in the worst concern the place no person needed the toddler, alongside with the mothers and fathers, on the least the toddler became into born wholesome and the two the mummy and toddler made it in the direction of the full adventure alive and wholesome. Congratulate the mothers and fathers, they're people who maximum deserve a pat on the back considering they had to circulate by warfare of having a being pregnant. deliver them an incredible card and a few heat desires written on the interior. in the event that they plan on preserving the toddler you ought to incorporate a recent card or some comparable small present. that's not at all incorrect to be excited concerning to the beginning of a clean life. If something i think of your mom's reaction of "no longer married?" became into style of unhappy and judgmental. it is like "hiya, i did no longer deliver you this image so which you ought to be bitter and bypass judgement. I despatched it to share some thing chuffed and beautiful with you, loosen up." And via the way, there are various human beings obtainable who come to a determination to have a family participants jointly yet elect to no longer be married for inner maximum motives. My aunt and uncle have been jointly for 17 years and raised a toddler jointly besides in the previous they desperate to get married. somebody I labored with became into no longer married to the daddy of her infants via fact of non secular stress between their households, yet they nevertheless lived jointly and chum yet another as a family participants. Marriage is a private decision between 2 human beings, that's no person's place to bypass judgement on the validity of a courting which they do no longer seem to communicate in. For some couples, their courting is so good that marriage turns into some thing superfluous or pointless, some thing which could wait until eventually the time feels precise.

You don't need to tell her that the kid looks like a melted E.T. But I bet there is at least one thing about that kid that looks cute or that would be nice to comment upon. I'd just say, "what a little sweetie" (or what ever you like)

You don't even have to go there--just say something like "What a sweet baby." You aren't talking about how cute he/she looks and the mother will be happy to hear your kind words. If she starts pressing with "Isn't she cute?" You can either lie to be polite or you can nod your head in agreement but NEVER tell her you don't agree. No new mother wants to hear that. I dont advocate lying as a rule, but in that situation lying is way better than being brutally honest. I mean, who is getting hurt if you agree with her?

The baby is a newborn, give it a chance to develop. It will change and start to look normal in a few weeks. To that mom, that is the most beautiful thing in the world. Don't ruin it for her. Just smile and say "congratulations."

You just say "What a lovely baby". Simple.

(Most babies look like melted ET's, so you should practice some kind words)

Number one don't think about the image you put in my head because I had to laugh at that one. All newborns look like that or they look like baby birds (except mine they were c-section) just think about the miracle they are and you will be able to honestly tell her she has a sweet baby.

There is an old saying, ugly in the craddle, pretty at the table!!
Meaning most of the time when a baby is ugly they turned out later to be pretty as can be
