Although he was born in Bethlehem, he grew up in Nazareth. So the people around who knew that he had been there long enough called him that way.

I know this will look like a duplicate of what was already written but.....
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem, they later fled and soon settled in Nazareth where Jesus was raised, but the thing was that at that time, no one knew that Jesus was NOT born in Nazareth, they just assumed he was born there and that is part of the reason that Jewish people had a hard time accepting him as the messiah, because the messiah was supposed to be born in the city of David, which is known as Bethlehem.
The information of him being born in Bethlehem came when the Gospels was written some decades later and then it became more widely known of his place of birth.
I hope this helps answer your question or at the least is basically what you are looking for. I hope you find all of your answers in life.

He was born in Bethlehem, but very shortly after that his parents fled with Him to Nazareth when Herod sent out an edict to kill all male babies below the age of 2. (His father - foster-father, Joseph - was warned in a dream by an angel to flee.)
He grew up in Nazareth after that.
