Do you want tours or tastings? Where in Washington? There are wineries near Spokane, near Walla Walla, near Seattle, and scattered around in between.

I recently went to a few Woodinville wineries (near Seattle). Chateau Ste Michelle was a nightmare. The wine was overpriced when we were tasing, they were stingy with the pours, the crowd was trashy, and the people just weren't friendly. The grounds are lovely, complete with several peacocks in full plume. It would be a great place to picnic.

Columbia Winery across the way staarted out bad, but then we got the tour guide to start talking to us and pouring for us and she really really knew her stuff. She was funny, friendly, and poured us stuff that was actually good, rather than the mass market stuff. We bought several bottles of one of their syrahs.

Both these locations offer winery tours frequently.

We also visited Page. They are in a industrial park, but make fabulous wine. It's basically a two person show, the prices are reasonable for the quality, and the people are as friendly as all get out. I'm not a Rose' person but there's was divine.

For the Columbia Valley, you have to hit Maryhill, The three legged dog winery, Goose Ridge, and Barnard Griffin. We are planning a trip there this year. : )

I'm going to give you a suggestion on a website to check out. It has always been extremely helpful to me when I'm planning a trip to a state I have never been to.

Just select your state and it will list all the wineries in the state and have links to those who have websites. It is extremely difficult to pick a bad winery to visit - each of them are unique and great in their own way.

I work for a winery in northern california, I have heard there are good winerys in the yakima valley (might have spelled that wrong). I believe Houge is there, they make some good stuff.
