I got a puppy in January. She is 6 months old and the man i got her from said she was purebred golden retriever. But she is really small for a golden and has a dark brown color that doesnt look like the usual golden retriever. Is she a mix?

Here she is:

your little girl looks just like my lucy, who by the way is very small for a golden, and the same beautiful colour. Lucy is a purebred registered retriever... so I'm going to guess yours is too.

Looks like a purebred Golden to me. Just one of the little red field variety of Goldens. There is a lot of variation in Golden Retrievers, especially between the show ones (think beauty pagent dogs) and working ones.

Ask for her papers. Pure bred dogs have lineage that the breeder is required to document. You should have been provided with these papers when you got your dog.

Secondly look under their ear. Pure bred dogs are tattoo'd with a number that identifies them as a pure bred.

No papers? No tattoo? Unlikely a pure bred.

But, if you don't have the papers, ask. It's not a big deal, you'll get them if the breeder is telling you the true story.

If there are no papers, you were had and you can report that breeder.

In the end, does it matter, your dog is super cute and I'm sure loves you to bits!

Even pure bred dogs come in variations in color and personality
Check out the site below it decribes the coat colors and has a picture of a really light and a dark colored one so u can see..

As far as her size, just remember, she is a puppy and she will continue to grow. But she may just be small, not all pure bred dogs are show quality.. if u think u were jipped, contact your breeder

She looks purebred. Goldens come in many shades, from almost a cream color to a deep red.

Shes pretty!

If the man you got your dog from didn't give you any papers proving the dog is purebred, it is very hard to say for sure.

What a cute puppy! Without papers, it may be hard to breed her. Love her nonetheless. Remember, 90% love, 10% strong discipline.

W/out PROOF-AKC registration papers-you'll never know.

Check the BREED STANDARD at the AKC site & compare. From ONLY seeing a photo...could be ...just pet-quality.
SPAY TOMORROW!

Yes she is purebred. However, she isn't a very good one by AKC standards.
