She's a 12 week old and has always been a very hyper and energetic but when we put a brand new collar on her a week ago, she started sleeping a lot more and has been more sluggish. Everytime I look at her, she looks sad and lonely as if she was imprisoned or something. She doesn't even want to play anymore, all she does is sleep and eat. Is it the collar that is causing this or is this normal for a kitten her age?

It's more loose than tight.

It's a normal collar with a bell on it and not a flea collar. Its also pretty loose.

If there is a bell on it, and she is very annoyed by that noise when it jingles, remove the bell. She may be avoiding movement to avoid hearing the damn bell jingle. I'd hate it.

If that doesn't work, take off the collar and leave it off. My cat goes outside on a leash and harness. He doesn't mind the harness, but I never leave it on him while he's inside.

is it a regular collar or flea collar?

if regular collar -- it may be that she's just a little too young for it yet. depends on the actual size of the cat. if she's small for her age, perhaps wait a few more weeks or a couple months and try again. or, just remove the collar for a week or two. if she returns to her normal, playful self, it's the collar. if not, she may be very ill and needs immediate attention from a vet!

if it's a flea collar - some animals have allergies to the meds in the collars. try removing it for a week and if she returns to her normal, playful self, find other methods of pest control versus the collar.

good luck!! :)

Maybe the collar is too tight. You have to be able to slip one or two fingers between the collar and her neck. She could also be settling into a routine where she would rather sleep dring the day and be playful at night. Have you gotten her some toys to play with? My dad used to have the cat chase the light from a flash light around. amused that crazy cat for hours. LOL

Um, its totally NOT normal, but I dont know if cats get depressed...try taking off the collar for a day or two and see if that changes her mood. If it does then I guess it did depress her...

A kitten who doesn't want to play is not feeling well. Take her to the vet.

well a few months ago, my dog was exactly like that, but when we took him to the vet, we found out he ate something and it got stuck in his stomach, and was causing him to act the way he did. i know it wasnt a cat, but maybe you should taker her to a vet for a checkup...
