I usually make sure my room is very cool, almost cold and snuggle up with a soft blanket.
I turn off the tv and pull the thick blinds down. I make sure there is minimal chances for light and sound.
If that doesnt work, I drink a glass of warmed milk and take a pain pill.
I can usually get to sleep using the above methods.

hint: sometimes the say whatever you are thinking about before you fall asleep is what you dream. Sometimes this works.

Stress can keep you awake from my experinces thats one of the most commen things. Counting sheep does not work...... trust me I have tryed. I find reading a really good book that keeps you attention helps! But this book should NOT contain murder or death or ppl serving jail time Ect...

What are the causes of this? Too hot, too cold, too tired, something wrong with the bed or pain in your body? If any of these are problems, look at resolving them.
If not, then you can look at a medicine from Health food shops like Le Naturiste Jean Marc Bruné. They have a product called Doux Calma that works like it is advertised! They recommend up to 6 pills a day, but 2 at bedtime did it for me!

The point of counting Sheep is to clear your mind of all the things you are thinking of that are keeping you awake.
I usually try to push every thought out of my mind except counting...not sheep though.. I imagine the number 1..and I draw it in my head..then 2..then 3..etc. Drawing each number as I count it in my mind. I go to the number 12 for whatever..stop then start again...I usually fall asleep around the fifth or six time I have repeated this.
All it does is let my mind relax...thus I fall asleep...
Hope it works.

One of my teachers told me to do this thing where you first start with your toes, and you pretend they are leaving your body like sand. Like they're not apart of you anymore. Then you go to your feet and do the same thing.. all the way up to your neck. When you get to that point, you should feel like all you have is your head... everything else has drifted away. Finally, picture that you have nothing left of you (you must really feel like there's nothing left) Like you're nothing at all. Then when your whole body feels away, you should have no thoughts. And thoughts are what keep people awake, so you should fall asleep.

I get up and prepare myself a protein based snack, with a bit of carbohydrate, and some good fat, usually nuts. Nothing big, just definitely protein based (1-2 ounces). Then, after about 30 minutes, if I am not already sleepy, I go back to bed, take a couple of deep breaths, and start planning what I would do if I won the lottery. My mom swore by planning her next trip, and mentally packing for it. It is more fun than counting sheep.

I was having alot of anxiety before sleeping and could not fall asleep. Had many many sleepless nights.
I was just playing with the program one afternoon and wanted to listen to the Power Nap track. Next thing I knew I was waking up! Fell right asleep without trying. After using the Fall Asleep track, I could fall asleep right away. But I didn't realize that I shouldn't be using that one all night. Switched to Whole Night and have been using it ever since.
I can go to sleep with ease now. I just lay and listen to the sounds and next thing I know I am waking up from a nice sleep. I don't suffer from lack of sleep anymore. I keep an IPod with earbuds next to my bed and take it ALWAYS when traveling. The earbuds help block out ambient noise and the sleep tracks keep me sleeping sound :)
Reboot your brain & sleep soundly again?

I drink a cup of hot tea. Usually chamomile or celestial seasoning sleepy time tea. It is decaff and taste great with a little honey. I also take a hot bath and here in Texas that sounds dumb but it does make me relax. I have also found that eating after 7:00 seems to make my sleep less easy. I just don't feel good after I eat that late. I also found a few great Cd's that help my brain relax.
Good luck!!!

The answer is very simple. Exercise during the day or whenever you have free time. I mean real exercise, like running 2-3 miles, push-ups and sit-ups. It will help you to sleep.

get a 8 to 5 job. come in early and stay late. try to get as much work done as possible when you are there. track your performance. get up three hours before work and run 2 miles around the block. after work try to get as much done as possible. you will surely hit the sack early every night.
