The obese individual must want this as bad as they want that last piece of pan pizza. They must come to terms with what is happening and make a commitment to take the first steps or the first move. Eating to some is like cigarettes to some or alcohol to others and they will need to be encouraged by the co-workers to do the right things to help around them. No teasing and laughing!!!

This is a hard question, and once again I wish I had --details--.

Let's speculate...

You own/manage a business that requires physical speed and fitness? Like -- what? A shipping company with lots of running and lifting?

In any case -- if the preformance from this employee is being hindred by their sheer mass, then it is best to find some way to replace this employee. Very few obsese people would find enough motivation in their JOB to change a difficult-to-break lifestyle.

If you can't prove that it is affecting their work, then it is impossible. Hire someone else to pick up the slack -- or deal with it. Obese people have self-control problems, but it must be severe enough to raise other issues as well. Is he cranky, sick all the time... ect.? Find some other way to call him out.

Good luck!

You don't unless you want a lawsuit in your hands!

If you want to do it tactfully, I suppose you could start a 'wellness' program at work. Have nutritionists come in to speak, give health incentives (i.e. $20 a month reimbursed for gym fees). At our work we actually had our own 'Biggest Looser' competition and the winning team got gift cards to buy new clothes. The entire company was eating good - it was a LOT easier that way because no one brought in the naughty food!

Are they really obese? or is it just in your eyes? Does there weight affect there job performance? or is it just in your eyes? I
Are you asking because this person is a friend? Someone you care for, or just embarrassed to be around? If the latter is the case maybe they are embarrassed to be around you. If the person is a friend you could help theme lose weight by being there for them if they want your help.
