I use a 70 lb. bag, and it works for me.

But the big question is, where are you going to hang it, and how much weight will that spot support? Having a lighter bag you actually *can* hang up is better than having your dream weight, but it falls out of the ceiling.

You might look into some of the better free-standing bags as well, since that saves you having to hang anything. Just use the bag in a spot where you can work around it, so when it starts to move you can work to the other side and send it back.

Oh, and get some good wristwrap gloves -- not just bag gloves -- to support your hands. If you're "a bit violent" you're going to need the help to keep you from injuring yourself.

Forget about weight try a water bag, it gives when you hit it but it offers resistence while you strike and press through with each punch. It also gives which is important to protect form serious injury if you make a mistake while hitting with force.

If you want to workout get trained. Check out a Kung fu San Soo studio in your area you can hit all the bags you want and have lots of freestyle workouts that will teach real world fighting technique not simply form. Get some ground training too.

Good luck, train hard as you get older but get trained so you know what the heck you are doing and don't simply learn how to hit a stationery target. Funny thing about bad guys, they tend to jump around and punch back when you get them mad.

Good luck.

get a 100lb water filled bag....its a little more but they are built to last. i have had mine for about 9 yrs and i still have it in great condition. i also have the sand filled but it has alot of tears and rips and its only 3 yrs old. and the water one will go with you so you dont really need a person to hold the bag. and its less harmful on your hands.
good luck with the violent thing. try not to be that way.

everlast ones are the best..... but if you want a cheap one that costs like 10-20 dollars, it will come from Bally's Fitness and you have to fill it up with water....
