A woodchuck is called a woodchuck because it indeed doesn't chuck wood. It's like this.....a woodchuck....(chuck (rejects) the wood and doesn't want to have anything to do with it. This is why a woodchuck is called a woodchuck. I hope this answers your question. As far as your other question honey, do you really think these people that run Y! Q&A actually read what people write to them, I doubt it, I wouldn't be surprised it there was a BOT controlling it all.

Why are they also called groundhogs? They don't look anything like a hog. Are they implying that groundhogs are fat so they hog alot of ground? If I was a woodchuck/groundhog I'd be offended. They deserve a better name, especially since they take the time out of their busy day every Feburary 2nd to let us know when spring begins. From this day forth they shall be called Excelcius, The Eighth Wonder of the world!

The name Woodchuck comes from a Cree Indian word, wuchak, used to identify several different animals of similar size and color, including other marmots; it denotes nothing about the Woodchuck’s habits or habitat.

The woodchuck lives in the woods and takes small chucks of wood to build it nest out of. it does this to hide from predators because if he lays in his nest it is almost invisible.

Because he chews the wood into sawdust, and then upchucks it all over the place. They used to call them woodupchucks, but that was a little too much for kids to pronounce.

maybe theres this guy, lets call him chuck, who cant give his woman an orgasm. he gets upset when she retires to her 'toys' in the bathroom to help herself. when he yells at her for it, she always yells back, 'i wouldnt have to do this if u would chuck!' so apparently he can chuck his wood but cant help in any other way.

same reason we call the person who handles our money a "BROKER" or we call the thing we park on a driveway and the thing we crive on a parkway....
same reason we say i gotta take a crap when actually we are leaving it.....
Cuz it makes people ask hillarious questions
