Start with a tennis ball, leave it in your back pack, car, whereever. Grip it and try to touch your fingers as you press through it. You can also put it between fingers and try to squeeze it that way as well. Don't forget about your thumb.

Next move to a blue racquetball and then to a blue handball. This is the cheapest method for building power in your grip.

You can also try taking a stick and tie a five or ten pound weight to it on five to six feet of rope. I normally drill a hole through a two to three foot piece of broom handle and tie the rope throught eh stick, a little duct tape or athletic tape will hold the tied rope still for you as well. Once built take the stick in your hands horizontal to the floor, feet shoulders width apart and the weight between you feet. The rope should be tied well around the plate or bumbell weight 5lbs to 10lbs should be enough weight for you but use your best judgement based on your shoulder conditioning, if you are weak up top start light 1lbs or 2lbs max. Hold the handle firmly in your left and right hand, extend your arms almost fully extended out in front of you, should high and begin rolling the rope around the stick as you lift the weight it will resist your turning of the handle to lift the weight, once the weight touches the stick stop and reverse your motion go slowly and resist the weight pulling on your twisting hands. Do this ten to fifteen times three to five sets along with the ball grip stuff.

Lastly try pull ups and dips. You need overall back and chest strength to pull and push your opponent as needed. Strong grip is not the only answer.

You can try power puddy and other funny stuff but the good old cheap stuff has always worked for me.

Good luck in your upcoming matches. Train hard!

Take a dumbell and put about 10-15 lbs. on it. Sit in a chair and put your forearm on your leg palm side up, let your hand hang out over the end of your leg. Grip the dumbell in your hand (that is hanging over your knee) and roll it down to the tips of your fingers. Bring it back up to your palm by rolling your fingers into a grip. Don't forget to work the wrist by bending the wrist back and forth while you have the dumbell griped. Then slowly open up your grip and let the dumbell roll to the tips of your fingers and start again.
Don't over do this. And don't use too much weight. It's better to start with low weight and more reps.

Lot of excellent answers here. Improving power in grip could be kinda complex because it include endurance as well and not many people who don't do martial arts know too much about increasing grip on cloth strenght. So work on your arms as well, it will help. Also you can Try following:

-Rock climbing (you should see some of rock climber's hands, they are scary! It look like they can crush your skull into dust)

-If you have accessible to punching bag, perferably freestanding one, put gi iacket across it and ierks as if you were gonna throw it, pulls it, etc... hard.

-Wrap few weights in very strong fabric such as gi. Lifts it, drag it, shake it, etc...

-If you have jars, full it with water and hold it by lids while walk around. Gradually work your way up to something heavier such as pebbles or bolts.

-Hang on your door frame by finger tips.

-Rope climbing.

-Wet a cloth and squeeze as much water out of it as hard as possible.

-Like as few here mentioned already, squeezes tennis ball.

-pull up, VERY VERY important part of the sport and very neglected by many. Yes it's HARD and not fun at all and pain in the neck but if you do pull ups on regular base, you will feel like other person is weak. I am not a big guy but in my Muay Thai fight, few time I grab guy outweight me by at least 15 lbs and I totally toss them around. They can't even get out of clinch either. This was entirely because I do pulls up everyday.

Back in the day we did these things.

1) Sit in front of TV,put a stack of newspaper on your left and a stack on your right.(un folded, opened sheets)

2)Reach down with both hands and grab a sheet ,by the corner,in
each hand.

3) Crinkle, crunch and wad up the sheet from corner to corner
until it is a tight hard wad in each hand ,toss the wads ,with left
and right hands to a trash can 6 to 10 feet away.

4) Do this until you can not do it anymore, skip a day,and start all
over.
The paper wads are useful to someone who ships stuff like
for e-bay , or toss them out.
This hand work out is good for home.
For on the go two balls of bees wax ,these seem too hard at first
but soften up as the heat from your hands begins to soften the wax.

If you don't try these I will not give you any more advise!
Let me know how you progress.
PS:the news paper makes your hands black from the ink,it just
washes off with soap.
Start tonight!
Last tip (but your hands may be too small)squeeze a tennis ball
for as many hours as you can, skip a day start over.
Your hands are strong when you can "pop" a "new" tennis ball by one good hard squeeze,(left & right at the same time)
