IM READING IN MY BOOK THAT IT CAN COOL THE CAT DOWN WHEN THEYRE TO HOT, MAYBE DONT LET IT OUTSIDE FOR LONG AMOUNTS OF TIME IF YOU DO. ALSO IT SAYS THAT A CAT MAY INCREASE ITS RATE OF RESPIRATION IN ORDER TO PASS MORE AIR THROUGH THE NASAL CAVITY, THEREBY SCENTING OUT SOMETHING TEMPTING AND THREATENING.

Nothing, he is just hot or maybe over exerted himself by playing too hard. My cat used to pant all the time after a few minutes of jumping around and flipping around after her favorite feather toy. She used to do flips and it was so funny when she would start panting. I guess it just means she got a good workout, which is great for her cardiovascular system. I just made sure she always had plenty of water, and didn't push her too much.
But it did surprise me the first time I saw it...you just don't think of cats as animals who pant....mostly dogs. But if you've even seen tigers in the hot sun at the zoo, if they are not sleeping, notice that a lot of the time they are panting while moving around.
But I remember the first time she starteed panting, I about freaked out! I had always been a dog owner my whole life, and this was my first cat. She had never panted before, so this was quite a surprise for me. See, they don't sweat like we do. This is one of the ways they cool off. Their paw pads also get real moist when they have been very active. I guess that is kind of like a little sweat, but they just don't sweat like people do.

My cat plays really hard and then pants like a dog. Cats also do that when they are really hot or stressed. If it only pants at times like these, then I wouldn't worry about it (make sure it has plenty of water though!) If the cat is panting for no apparent reason, call the vet.

Your cat could be hot like the other answers suggest. Your cat may also be SICK. A panting cat could have a respiratory infection making breathing difficult. Have your cat checked by a VET ASAP

Our dog snorts and snores like a pig. She's just a little girl, (springer spaniel) but man, can she snore loudly. She's been known to wake us up.
She's five-years-old and weighs about 40 lbs. Her only motivation in life is food. That's all she thinks about ... eating! Then she sleeps and snores. When she is smelling around for something, she snorts like a little hog.
Please let us know what you think are good answers to why your cat pants like a dog. I'm guessing she's worked up over something...she's too hot...something is hurting her... she just got done exercising....or she just got excited about something...
Don't feel bad for being in the dark with your question. We have no idea what's wrong with our "baby" either! You might go to a feline website which includes answers to situations like yours. Who knows, you might find it somewhere under a FAQ section. Maybe it's more common than you realize!

Does your cat pant often? Like a habit? Call your vet if he/she's never done if before...

There are several reasons for panting in animals. 1) heat; 2) pain or 3) ....let's just say they may be "in the mood".
