Baby bird fell out of a tree in our yard. I can tell it's hurting, I want to end it's pain, how do I do it the most humane way? Any other suggestions?

Just leave it alone.

We don't shoot any one because he/she is suffering. By shooting, we are in fact assuming to finish our pain rather than his/her. Pain is a stage in life which one has to undergo in order to overcome even death. Judgement is not ours.. but God's. Our natural duty, even in the case of a bird, is to nurse the wound to the best of our ability within the available means and medical methods. There we prove ourselves to be truly humane and compassionate. See what you can do like Siddhartha in your present case without causing further hurt against the birth right of the bird to recoup and co-exist so long as the Mother Nature wills.

Bring it to a wildlife clinic as soon as you can. They will either treat it for free, or euthanize it. They will know what to do better than anyone. If you don't have any wildlife clinic nearby, go to a local vet (preferably one that handles birds), and euthanize him/her. It's the most peaceful way to end an animals life, I was 11 when I watched my dog be put to sleep, it's virtually painless.

Try putting it back in the tree, theres not much you can do with it, if it hurt itself, the parent will not have anything to do with it, cause you touched it. Just put it back outside near the tree it fell from, if you dont see it later on, then it could of flown away.

How do you know it is not a fledgling who has left the nest? Does it appear to be injured? It may be just hanging out waiting for food from it's parents. It would be really sad if you killed a bird for nothing after it is almost ready to fly on it's own.

This is probably too late - but - next time that occurs, look up an animal rescue in your area and have them take care of it. We found a baby squirrel once and they took it in and raised it until it was old enough to be let go. I wouldn't kill an animal!

Lots of cities have free health care for wild animals. a seagull fell out of the sky and landed in front of my car once, i took it there and they nursed it back to health and released it. Look in the phone book. Good luck.

Put it outside and get the neighbors cat... Put the cat in front of the bird, nature will take care of it for you. I did this once, it is not pleasant to do, but it is quick, and natural! Good luck.

Put it in the freezer. That's advice straight from the vet. It'll just go to sleep. Poor l'il feller. Been there myself.

Get onto the computer while it suffers and screams. Ask for the world's opinion on how to kill it, rather than actually killing it. Then call your husband/boyfriend and cry about it. Call him a bastard when he kills it.

Call animal control and they will deal with it. An avian vet with the SPCA also may be able to help it and not kill it.
