the place next to it, as in her back, sexual organs, or down lower like on her legs right under her butt? if the first one, than fleas or rash is culprit, if sexual organs and not spayed, than in heat, if spayed than not sure, if a little lower than definitely go to the vet, cause it could be swollen lymph nodes..

You may have a big problem because dogs have what is called an anal gland and it needs to be cleaned out when the dog is groomed. Normally when the butt is swollen is because this dogs anal gland is infected and you need to get them to a vet as soon as possible this can turn deadly. This can be cured but if you get it seen about to late you could be headed in a bad direction not only that but it can become extremely painful for the poor pooch.

Your dog might be suffering from anal sac Problem.
The dog has two anal glands or sacs located at five and seven o’clock on either/both sides of the anal sphincter. The openings of the anal sacs are found by drawing down on the skin of the lower part of the sphincter. By applying a small amount of pressure directly below these openings, these glands can usually be expressed.
Anal sacs are also emptied whenever there is sudden contraction of the anal sphincter. Most groomers express the glands before bathing the dog.
causes for anal swelling-
1. Impaction of Anal Sacs
2.Anal Sac Infection (Anal Sacculitis)
3.Anal Sac Abscess
You can control it by having your veterinarian, or a veterinarian technician express the anal glands at the earliest possible time

Yeah, I think heat too, but it should be just her girl parts that are swollen, if it is swollen anywhere else, it could be an abcess. (infection under the skin, that fills an area with pus.)
Get her spayed. It is the best thing for her. If you can't pay, call the SPCA or animal control, they have programs to help.

My roommate's dog is doing the same thing. I'd say take her to the vet. Don't just let it fester like my roommate. I've told my kids not to touch the dog beyond her neck....I don't know what the heck that is. Hope your dog's butt gets better. Seriously.

Shes blowing you a kiss through her anal glands.
You need to get her to the vet so they can clean it for ya. or you can do it yourself.
Get a paper towel, with warm water on it, and gently squeeze her anal glands. Until there is no poo left there to squeeze.

My dog does the same thing, but he also scoots. It's his anal gland and the vet just squeezes the gland. Very cheap and easy fix. But beware of the smell when it's done.
