I am not sure if I have insomnia, but I havent been able to fall asleep at a good time. In high school, I was used to sleep at 3 in the morning and be able to wake up for early period at 6 in the morning. But now in college, I cant wake myself up in the morning for the life of me. Even with an alarm clock! This seems to be a reoccuring problem. For the past week I havent been able to sleep before 5am. So far, I have been lucky for I have gotten up for my classes; but I dunno how long I can keep it up. And its annoying! I need to get my sleep.

I have trouble sleeping too and it sucks! I get up at 6am. I am tired during the day and when it comes time for bed I am wide awake. Once in a while I take a PM like tylenol or excedrin and it does help me to get to sleep. You have to find a way to relax before you go to bed. Reading a good book or a magazine or text book will help. The person that said sex is on the right track bcz it does relax your body. Sometimes if I pray for other people that helps too. You just have to find a way to let your mind unwind from your day. Then your body will follow.

You definitely have insomnia.
1) Go ahead and set a time to sleep even if you're not tired yet. Check your bedroom for any source of light. When your eyes see light they stop your brain's production of melatonin (the sleepy hormone)
If you have to have a night light, red light is OK but nothing with blue, white or green light.
2) Try a melatonin supplement. A common dosage would be a 3 mg capsule or tablet about 30-60 minutes before you head to bed. A bottle costs about $5-10 at any drug store. (No Rx needed it's natural.)
3) You can also try drinking dark red cherry juice on a daily basis in the evening. Dark cherries have melatonin in them.)

-Get into a sleep routine. -Keep your bedroom dark, quiet and comfortable. -Don't dwell on the insomnia. If you can't sleep, go somewhere and read a magazine or book. quietly. -Don't smoke. -Get exercise during the day. -Try meditation. -Learn about Bach Flower Remedies. If you would like me to go into these, you can add me as a fan. -Reduce your stress level. -Lavender and chamomile oils have a relaxing effect. Drop a few on your pillow and add them to your bath. -Here is one that definitely worked for me when I had an extreme case of insomia this past spring. It is a natural hormone called Melatonin- one that the body makes on its own, but maybe your body isn't making enough. Take .3 to .5 mg 1 hour before you go to bedtime. It is best used on a short-term basis and under a doctor's supervision.

I suffer from the same problem. I cannot sleep until 3 or 4 in the morning and sometimes have such a hard time waking up.
Having sex does help. Praying helps.
Just try relaxing and atleast lay in bed. I am trying to do the same.

Good luck!
