if you want to prevent something from loading at startup there are two methods to do this, the easy way and the hard way.

Hard way
start --> run --> regedit
find following key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\
Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Run

remove any key from starting on boot.

easy way
the link below is for a program called msconfig. Use it to edit your boot programs and prevent some from starting. You can also copy it from XP. Do not install from 98 for this will crash. Save it to you Windows\system32 folder. Good luck

The dialog about the trash bin just says that if you want to permanently remove the program, do it through the add/remove control panel in settings. If you don't want users to access the program through the start pane, then just delete the shortcut.

You are not deleting the program when you remove it from the menu. The only reason you get a box saying you are sending something to the bin is because you are sending the shortcut (the thing you want to remove in the first place) to the recycling bin. So you should be fine.

Simply removing something from the start menu will not remove program. The only way to remove program is to go to add/remove program under control panel menu and choose the program that you want to uninstall (remove).

When you are trying to remove some program, it will ask you either you want to put in the trask can or remove the program. Then you have to choose them according to what you want. Hope this help!

It just removed the shortcut to the program. The item you remove from the start menu is still on the computer, but the shortcut from the start menu is gone. Windows asks if you're sure you want to send the shortcut to the recycle bin.

Anything in the start menu is called a "shortcut." It's not the actual program, just a way to start the program without having to find it on your hard drive. Removing it will have no impact on the program itself.

It just removes it from startup folder on start menu. About your dialog box it is hard to tell without knowing what program you are talking about. Try this. click on start, run, and type in msconfig and press enter. click on the startup tab on the top, and see if the program you are trying to make stop loading is there. If it is, undo the check mark that is next to it, then hit ok, and restart to see if that fixed it. If not, I will need more information to help you. good luck.

No it doesn't. You can also use the search in the start menu to find the program in the computer files. Deleting it from the start menu just deletes a shortcut.

Add remove programs on the control panel is the only place to remove programs. Appwiz.cpl from Run will get ther too.

It is a shortcut that is thrown away. The program is still there.

The computer is simply telling you it is putting the short cut into the recycle bin.

Easy solution: Go to Run and type in MSCONFIG. Uncheck whatever you wish to disable at start-up from the list.
You will have to re-boot then.
The program is still there in your start menu and is not effected.
