A religion. An ancient one, far older than Christianity. At least as old as Judaism. A root of the tree of Abraham.

It's generally considered a religion, however some (mostly Christain) religious experts rate it as a cult.

To qualify as a cult it would have to "indoctrinate" and "demand" and "expect" and also be somewhat sercretive.

The Religion, itself, doesn't for the large part indoctrinate. A faction is forceful, but most of the indictorinations are done by lay practitioners. Much like Christianity. They do make some demands, but by and large they are not totally harmful to anyone. You have to cover your head, bow to the East, read the Koran and strive at some point to come to Mecca. Again, not a lot here that Christians don't ask for.

They expect you to behave a certain way, but as with Christians many don't pay much attention, hence they get STD, AIDs, Herpes just like some Christians do!

They are no more secretive than most Christians, in fact some neo-Christain faiths like the Mormons or Jehovah's witnesses tend to exclude and be somewhat secretive, except to those newcomers that are seriously trying to convert.

Organizations such as Scientology and the Masons can be even more secretive.

Hence they tend to look more like cults!

It is unclear just how much "hatred" and "anti-Jewish" or "anti-Western" preaching actually goes on inside the "average" Mosque. Certainly some American neo-Christians religions, such as those affiliated with the KKK and some ultra conservative or radical religions that speak in tounges or walk into pits of posinons snakes are just as bad.

It is a few vocal people like the leaders in IRan that do most of the Anti-West teaching.

And it is some very radical people that order the killings and bless the terrorist acts.

Of course the Pope in Rome ordered and blessed the Crusades!

The general religiius leaders in ISlamic countries don't officially go after Christain regions of that country, it is radical lay people that do all that stuff, just like the KKK burned crosses on people's lawns.

Not much difference here, either!

It is a religion. There are only some people calling themselves Muslims that are terrorists. Thankfully, most Muslims are peaceful.

The word cult has many definitions, but in the way it is usually used by people, Islam would not be a cult. It is the religion of a vast group of people and allows free thought.

Islam is not a cult. But it IS used as an excuse by some misguided and undereducated people to do terrible things to other innocent people around the world. How would you feel if the terrorists on those planes on 9/11 were Catholics or Baptists?
How would the world have reacted then?Don't let the actions of a few be your basis of opinion for the rest.

Islam is the world's second largest religion with a following of over one billion people called Muslims. Islamic belongs to the Semitic family; it was promulgated by the Prophet Muhammad in Arabia in the 7th century AD. The Arabic term Islam, literally "surrender," illuminates the fundamental religious idea of Islam--that the believer (called a Muslim, from the active particle of islam) accepts "surrender to the will of Allah (Arabic: God)." Allah is viewed as the sole God--creator, sustainer, and restorer of the world. The will of Allah, to which man must submit, is made known through the sacred scriptures, the Qur'an (Koran), which Allah revealed to his messenger, Muhammad. In Islam Muhammad is considered the last of a series of prophets (including Adam, Noah, Jesus, and others), and his message simultaneously consummates and abrogates the "revelations" attributed to earlier prophets. Retaining its emphasis on an uncompromising monotheism and a strict adherence to certain essential religious practices, the religion taught by Muhammad to a small group of followers spread rapidly through the Middle East to Africa, Europe, the Indian subcontinent, the Malay Peninsula, and China. Although many sectarian movements have arisen within Islam, all Muslims are bound by a common faith and a sense of belonging to a single community.

Islam is one of the world's great religions. It origin dates back to the 7th century with the prophet Mohamed. Unlike the Christian Bible there is no doubt of the origin or authorship of their holy book, the Koran. It assign men the dominant role in the places of prayer which are called a mosque and society in general. It recognizes the early prophets citing Jesus as a major prophet, but not a deity. Its major flaw is it proscribes a way of life that is appropriate for the 7th century and does not separate church and state affairs. Christianity has undergone two great uphevals, the Protestant Reformation and the age of Enlightment both of which has freeded the ordinary man from the tyranny of the early Christian church. No such uphevals have occurred in the history of Islam.

It's a religion.

Not all Muslims are terrorists and not all are Islamic extremists.
Do I think Islam is another world religion and NOT the way to the light and eternal life with our Creator? Yes.

Should I fight against Islam, politically and Spiritually, philisophically? yes.

Should I love them the same? Yes.

If you pull the Jewish card out against what I just said, it won't work, I attend both Church and Synogogue, Messianic Jew

or to be less confusing to those who don't know what that is- Christian.

Islam is a religion and, as practiced by the ones I've known, a very admirable one. To equate all Muslims with the hate-mongering few would be like equating all Christians with KKK. That is precisely the kind of stereotyping that leads to this horror, and is what all people of good will, of any faith, should be working together to end.

It's a religion.

It's just that some extremist fanatics hijack Islam in it's name in order to further their own extremist ideals of hate and intolerance.

I think of it this way: Just because the KKK calls themselves a "Christian" group, is Christianity a religion or a hate cult? It's a religion, but it just so happens that the KKK hijack's it for political and propaganda purposes.

A 600 odd year old religion based on a book of DEATH!

The total thought of the Qurán is summed up in;

Qurán 9:5
""The Verse of the Sword""
"" Fight and slay the pegans wherever you find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem""

This shows the LOVE and PEACE that this book and islam is all about!
