Does it mean that there's no such thing as 'once saved always saved'?

I will answer this question, but frankly I would prefer another. It will take me a few minutes, but my sources with be www.biblegateway.com (using NIV) and www.scripture4all.org. I probably should cite the entire chapter, but I limited myself to verse 13 and 14.

Matt 24:13but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

You must have both verses or you will never get the correct meaning (as written in the gospels).

From the Greek, verse 13 translates "But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved"

And verse 14 "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then the end come."

Simple put, you need to focus on the word "end" in both verses. In other words, he that endures (verses 4 to 12 describes what he is enduring) until the end, the same shall be saved. So at the end, those still standing will be saved.

Moreover the good news of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations (the Christian message). Then the end comes. So this is a threefold statement:

1, Christians will endure at the end (these are one that are living) and they shall be saved.

2. The Christian message will be proclaim in all the world for a witness unto all nations.

3, The end comes

As you can see this has nothing to do with "once saved always saved". I hope that helps.

Why Endurance is Needed? Among the things Christians may have to face are indifference on the part of others, reproach, misrepresentation, intense hostility, hatred by close family members, mistreatment, imprisonment, and even death. (Mt 5:10-12; 10:16-22; 24:9, 10, 39; Mr 13:9, 12, 13; Re 13:10) This calls for endurance. Without this essential quality, a person simply could not come into possession of eternal life. (Ro 2:7; Heb 10:36; Re 14:12) This is because what counts is the finish, not how well a person may have started in the course of Christian discipleship. As Jesus Christ expressed it: "He that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved." (Mt 24:13) "By endurance on your part you will acquire your souls."-Lu 21:19.

Persons who quickly accept "the word of God," but only on a surface level, lack endurance. They soon give up under tribulation or persecution, losing out on God's approval and blessing. But those who develop deep appreciation for "the word of God" endure steadfastly. They "bear fruit with endurance," faithfully continuing to proclaim God's message despite hardship, suffering, and discouragement.-Lu 8:11, 13, 15.

Very true, once saved always saved is a deception of satan.
Mt 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
Mt 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
Mt 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
Mt 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

To endure the end, means to know and do Gods will , either to death or to the return of Christ.

The chapter and verse you're asking about is Jesus telling us that "...the one that perseveres to the end will be saved." In the verses preceeding this, He describes the signs that will take place foretelling the coming of the end. He is trying to prepare us, telling us that no matter what happens, keep the faith. Of all the evils that will befall us, keep your eye on the prize - heaven.

As far as "once saved, always saved", I'm not very well versed in detail about this doctrine, but I can say that it isn't correct.

I was a protestant and became a Catholic. "Once saved, always saved," means that once a person accepts Jesus Christ, that they are guaranteed heaven, no matter what they do in life, because all of their sins are forgiven no matter what. This only works as long as the person in repentent, and asks for forgiveness.

However, the doctrine falls apart when the person comitting the sin is not repentent. They did accept Jesus at one point in their life, but some where later - for whatever number of reasons - they lost their faith and rejected Jesus. If someone refuses Jesus and refuses to accept His forgiveness, then they cannot be saved. Sadly, this is their choice.

This is why the Church teaches that we must constantly strive to remain faithful and obedient to God, because we all run the risk of losing our faith and rejecting God, which would result in our eternal damnation.

God bless,

Danny

Jesus showed clearly that endurance would be required of God’s people in our day. In foretelling the sign of “the conclusion of the system of things,” he said: “He that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved.” Endure while doing what? Jesus’ very next words answer: “And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations.” (Matthew 24:3, 13, 14) Only then ‘will the end come.

I think that Joey and Joja got the closest.

Do you see how many people think that they can perform their way into heaven after coming to Christ? I'd say most of them!

A Christian is somone who is not perfect, cannot be perfect, and knows it, that continues to trust God over any circumstance, the same way that Christian trusted God when he came to God.

Once you were saved in the Spirit, are you now made perfect in the flesh? ( Galatians )

The typical thing to do is to expect performance out of yourself after you are saved. Your eyes get on yourself and you try to live one of those clean little Christian lives that doesn't do anything for God. It only gets in the way! You start caring more about what others think of you, than what God thinks of you.

It needs to stop.

Matthew 24:13 is talking about those people who like I think Joja said, they are in it for the money, or something selfish. They talk about the Lord and maybe even try to do miracles because they are good showman, or stumbled into it. They are without faith, not trusting in God but relying upon whatever is going on to support them.

Jesus is the freind of sinners. Do you think that some of those people that Jesus hung out with might have been converted? The Pharisee's thought that they had to be perfect with the convenants and commndments, Jesus didn't like them! So why is everybody thinking that they can come even close to what the Law says to do?

Paul wrote that the Law was to expose men to the fact that they weren't capable of doing it. That's why they needed grace!

Why is everyone stuck on the Legalistic doctrine of works? Sheeesh!

That you always have to keep his covenants and do according to his will. Once you are saved if you then turn back from the lord you will be worse off than if you never had been saved. So the once saved always saved is false teaching. But he does have saving grace, That is why you renew your covenants with the sacrament every week.

It means that there are a lot of "false prophets" and "false evangelists" too.

People who (claim) that they have a "gift" of healing and ask for $$$$$$$$$$ non-stop and then spend it on fancy cars and apartments.....what a pitiful sight.

THOSE are the ones that THINK they will enter heaven's gates because they THINK they are "blessed"

but God will say, "I never even knew you"

So many make-believers...
So many "mixers"

God isn't playing church.
All these people that know better but don't care because some televangelist says "it's ok" will find out on that day that God will judge the world by His Word which is the Holy Bible...and NOT anybody's church.

I agree.. there is no such thing as once saved always saved.. you must live your life according to his will. You must constantly try to fight temptations and be close to him. You have to strive to have a relationship with him.
