Although I suspect you looked up the "official" answer already, and if the old lady story is authentic, she was probably doing her uninformed best to say you were either accursed or you were a curse. In its original Greek form anathema could be either good or bad: a thing devoted to God for a blessing or for destruction. Today's evangelical Christians, although poorly informed in the area of Biblical and linguistic history, attempt to demonstrate their elite status by the use of words they should study a little more.
Now, if the "old lady" had told you that you were "katathema" or "katanathema", then she might have been on to something, as this is the intensive prefix used in either noun or verb form.

Maybe she was trying to wake you up. Maybe she was trying to open your eyes. Maybe she was trying to shake your world. Maybe she cared deeply about you. Who was the lady? Was there a lady? Or do you only wish there was?

Please, expand on the subject.
Don't trust old people all the time. An old lady once asked me if I was her granddaughter. Old people are called old for a reason.

She meant that you were evil, accursed, or damned. Either she was one mean spirited old hussy, or you were a real pill.
