How do I get non-profit status for my organization?

We are starting a political organization and I think we should have non-profit status so that we can raise operating capital. Is this done at the state level? What is involved?

Answer 1

Purpose of your group is only for politics;
No profit of the organization will be distributed to the members,
All income will be used for the projects of the organization, and
Register your group as a non-stock corporation.

Check with the IRS and your states tax compliance board or what ever your state calls it and ask them if your group can qualify to apply for non profit status.
