I've read that lowering inflammation is a deterrent to cancer. Is the lowering of inflammation related to the blood alkalinity?Contrary to what we think, I heard that lemons create alkalinity in the body?

You do not want to change the pH of your body. If your body's pH becomes to alkaline it can cause just as many problems if not more then if you become acidic. To help reduce your cancer chances, I would suggest that you eat a balanced healthy diet.

for more information on alkalosis (blood that is to alkaline) see http://www.healthatoz.com/healthatoz/Atoz/ency/metabolic_alkalosis.jsp

You can make your blood alkaline by hyperventilating or throwing up a lot. Hyperventilating causes you to breath out more carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide becomes an acid when it hits water, like your blood. Throwing up a lot works by removing stomach acids, hydrochloric acid which will be replenished by ultamately taking protons (acid) from sources in your blood. I would not recomend doing any of these, they don't work for long, so you would have to do it all the time and doing so has lots of side effects. Your body tried very hard to keep your body at a constant pH of 7.4 and there are lots of systems to keep it at that level. You get sick if your pH verys more than one pH unit.

The more important answer, it that you have been given misinformation. Some cancers can be related to inflamation, but most are not. When inflamation is involved it usually is over a very long period of time, years. This occurs with asbestos induced mesothelioma. Inflamation is usually short lived and will turn it self off when the infection is cleared and so is not a problem. There are other hints that inflamation may be involved in cancer, by anti-inflamitory drugs like aspirin decrease the incidence of colon cancer, but that may occur by other mechanisms than inhibiting inflamation and the link between the two is not completly accepted.

The bottom line it don't try to make your blood alkaline, evelotion has found the right pH for your blood, keep it there. Also, if you want to lower your risk of cancer, try things that really work, don't smoke, use sun screen, don't charbroil meat, lose wieght and don't play in toxic waste dumps.

Eat foods with more alkaline such as most fruits and vegetables. Stay away from acidic foods as much as possible too. You could probably do a google search and get a list of alkaline and acidic foods.

That sounds like gibberish. The body has a very low tolerance of pH outside it's normal range of 7.4. You do not want to mess with it and make yourself sick! If you wish to decrease inflammation the best thing to do is eat a very health diet with lots of fruits, veggies, and brown rice. Stay away from red meat and fried foods!
