what has worked well for you? If it was a med. what were the side effects? Anything anyone who has had anxiety issues can tell me would be much appreciated . I have had anxiety just about my whole life. I am in my early 30's now. Its at an all time high. I want to be able to do things other people have done much earlier in their lives. I want to begin really having a life. I want my kids to be happier too obviously. I am a wreck.

I have had anxiety for a long time and i too am in my early 30's and for me behavioral therapy and Xanax (only when absolutely necessary, since it is highly addictive) has helped me tremendously. Not to mention learning acceptance. All medications effect people differently, for me xanax doesn't cause any side effects that would stop me from taking it. It could be different for you though. What helped me the most was therapy. When i experience anxiety now i try to remain calm and remember all the things my doctor has told me. I allow myself to experience the physical sensations that define anxiety one at a time and remind myself, this won't kill me, i can get through this. For me it was facing all the things that triggered the anxiety instead of looking at it as if the anxiety was the enemy. The anxiety was the by product of something else and once i found out what that was i started there to change the way I perceived things. When i avoided things in my life to avoid anxiety i became a prisoner in my own little world

I hate to tell you this - but you won't be free of anxiety forever.
Being on meds only helps with the symptoms, but there will
always be anxiety. I am on Klonopin, Dalmane, Cymbalta,
Remeron, Seroquel, Vistaril - I call it my "cocktail" -
Klonopin is an anti-anxiety drug you may gain weight, I haven't
found many symptoms with it - I am also being treated for
depression - could you also be depressed? Do you also have
panic attacks? they often go hand in hand with anxiety. Once you get on some meds., you will feel better - it will take some time, but you'll be glad you did! I also would suggest counseling
this helps you get it all "out" obviously you need to talk - I would
see someone - I do and it helps me.....

Whenever I start to feel myself becoming overwhelmed with anxiety or stress (it runs in the family, i've noticed) I delve into some new form of religion. I don't know why, but the fascination of the spirit really helps me to surpass the physical stress of anxiety. I have found that the eastern religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism, etc. have marvelous practices that help with stress. Meditation is the most common and most effective of these. Try everything, I say!

YES I can answer this question.

I am in my late 30s. I am on Xanax, which I would like to leave behind.

In my life, the best way I have found to combat that energy and keep it in check is to work out at the gym.Consistent exercise.

It gives you the edge to harness that energy into a manageable arena, and maybe even use it to your advantage. It gives you control. It gives you balance.

I've just made it back to the gym after years of not doing it. I guess I just got busy and well, addicted to Xanax. It's hard getting back, but I'm already feeling better than I have in years.

I suffer from anxiety and have high blood pressure. I have been taking meds. for at least 8 yrs. to keep mine at bay. Just recently I have had my dosage up ed 50 more milligrams. This can be serious if untreated. You need to discuss your symptoms with your doc. In my oppion you do need some type of med for this.

anxiety is caused by the unknowing of what could happen. If you think about the things that happen, usually the reaction is of shock, anger or disappointment. All anxiety is, is the fear of the worst that HASN'T even happened yet, and if you knew that you create your own reality, you help make your worst fears come true.

Stay AWAY from paxil. A friend of mine took it and suffered MASSIVE hallucinations. I took prozac for a year and am problem free now, it seems to be a fix all but talk to you Doctor and ALWAYS read the side effects first as some of them cause thoughts of suicide. Isn't that nice?

Ask your dr. You will possibly be prescribed Xanax at least for awhile to see if it works. It has changed my life forever!
Also, my psychologist said that parents who suffer these diseases, the higher the possibility the children will too. Especially if you have any suicidal tendencies.
Just ask your dr.
