I don't think you could call fear a product of selfishness. Fear is an emotion, something we feel, we don't have any control over it, unless we learn to overcome it. I feel that in being selfish, we have a choice, we are able to make a conscious decision to help others or to give of ourselves, but we choose not to. Fear may hold us back, but in some cases, we want to rid ourselves of it, so that we may do better, and do things for the benefit of others.

That's a great, thought-provoking question. I wish I had the ability to think more deeply about it.

Fear comes from lack of peace and trust, and thus people become selfish out of fear.

It could be. It could also be the product of experience; the unknown; wisdom; lack of love--which is a form of selfishness.

Just kinda depends on what the fear is about, I guess.

not 100%. fear can also be a product of venture into something not known. if i am fearful of starting a new buisness, im not being selfish, im scared of the risk of failure. anytime you try something new you always risk failing.
