Both of these cameras are called "ultra-zoom" because of their large range from approximately 35mm to 420mm.

This long telephoto lens is very good at long range shots, especially since both have a good image stabilization system. This reduces or eliminates blurry images caused by slight movements of the camera which would be greatly multiplied by the long telephoto lens.

Other cameras which have the same class of long zoom lenses are:

Sony H1 and H5
Panasonic FZ7 and FZ20
Canon S2 IS and S3 IS

Each of these has gotten very good reviews, and each has their stronger and weaker points.

Go to a good camera store and try them out to see which is best for you.

Good Luck

The Sony was designed for this and does a fantastic job for a camera in its price range. However, the H2 is the old version of this camera. The new version is the DSC-H5, which is even better (actually, alot better).
