get a tweezers- pull the tick off and flush it down the tolit- the dog will bleed alittle bit but thats ok he will be fine, just make sure to pull it now or else it will suck alot of blood and be hard to remove and will grow in size- the sooner the bettter....get to work! (i had to pull off 40 ticks off a puppy i had gotten once when i first got it)

Use latex exam gloves to examine your pet for ticks. Examine using good lighting.
Check your pet daily for ticks by thoroughly feeling for any lumps under the hair. Pay close attention to ears, around face, eyes, legs, and belly.
Ticks will range in size from the size of a sesame seed to the size of a fingernail (engorged).
When is tick is found embedded in the skin, use a fine pointed tweezers at the point of attachment, and grasp firmly. Remember to wear latex gloves when doing this.
Using slow, steady, and firm traction, pull the tick straight out from the skin.
Cleanse the skin with mild soap and water.
If part of the tick breaks off, you can try to remove it as you would a splinter, but it is probably best to leave it alone. The body will 'eject' it in time.
Place the tick in a jar of alcohol, noting the date, in case of future illness. Tick identification and location of tick infestation will be important.

Tips:
Do NOT use a match or caustic materials to try to smother the tick or get the tick to 'back out'. This doesn't work, and may be causing the tick to regurgitate more saliva (and potential pathogens) into the skin.
Talk to your vet about effective tick control (spray, powder, spot-on, or collar) for your pet.
Check pet daily, especially in the spring when ticks are most common.

Hi there,
You should heap vasaline all around the tick making sure you cover the entire tick. This stops the tick from being able to breath and he will back his head out to get air. Wait about 10 minutes. You can use a pair of tweezers or your fingers...either way...make sure you have a good grip on the critter and tug a little hard. It should come out with no problem.
Also...you should know that you can't squish ticks...I usually take a pair of scissors and cut it up...it's gross but better than crawlling on you.
Hope this helps...Good Luck

One little tick is not a big deal and your dog is not going to become anemic from this one tick.

Put some kind of grease on it......vasoline, vegetable or olive oil, margerine, a squirt of hairspray, hair gel---just about anything. The tick will suffocate in a matter of minutes and will fall off.

Your other option is to put some kind of heat on it. Light a match, let it burn for a second, blow it out and put the tip of the match on the tick. It'll burn right off.

You want to heat up a pair of tweezers with a match or lighter then bring the hot tweezers to the tick. When you attempt to grab the tick the heat will make it release and begin to back up. Once you get the tick out be sure to burn it because stepping on it alone will not kill it, they are very resiliant.

Get a pair of tweezers, grab as far down as you can and SLOWLY pull it out. Hopefully all of the tick plus a little bit of skin comes with it. None of the other "remedies" work.
The dog will, in all likelihood, be just fine.
Apply a disinfectant like iodine or alcohol to the spot.
Same remedy works for humans.

You can take a pair of tweezers or even your two fingers (I use my fingers) and grab it right up near the head, then pull it off. I usually flush it down the toilet. Hope this works. After you get the tick off, go get some Frontline and put it on your dog. It works great.

Apply rubbing alcohol to the tick with a cottonball. This causes the tick to loosen/release its grip. Then remove with a tweezer.

I have heard if you do not know how to take the tick out, just bring it to a vet. You do not want to risk leaving the pieces of the tick in,

Use a tweezers, like others said, but be sure to get out the head. I would strongly recommend getting Frontline. Don't get the stuff in the grocery store; it's not really good enough. My dog has limes disease, and it's just as easy, if not easier, for a dog to get it.
