How can people look down upon people who fight and die for there countried everyday? Why do these people find themselves better than the people who protect them and everything they hold important to them. Why don't we respect our military, especially when they do so much for us everyday. And especially when the soldiers do nothing to deserve disrespect besides fight for our country. Why do we blame the grunts and not the people who order them to do what they do? Shouldn't if anybody, we blame the president and not the military? I just want to know, what makes some of us look down upon people who do so much for us everyday?

As the wife, daughter, sister-in-law, and daughter in law of either active duty or retired military men, I really appreciate the sentiment. I'd also like to take it a step further. How is it that the people who don't have to fight and have nothing to lose always seem to be the ones so against a fight. Sometimes in life you have to fight, that go for personally and as a country. I feel that if our military men and women agree with the things we are doing right now, then how is a bunch of people who have nothing at stake can run around bashing it. I know for a fact my husband supports our war in iraq and afghanistan, so do his guys. The idea that any of these guys could go over and die for a cause that the feel is right and then have people in this country talking about it's all a mistake and we shouldn't be over there and affectively saying that they died for nothing is sickening to me.

Great question! I also wonder this. Just know that not everyone looks down on them. I have great respect for our soldiers and their families. I guess some people unfortunately get so caught up in politics that they forget that these people are out there protecting us, sacrificing so much and deserve nothing but the utmost respect from the rest of us. If it weren't for them we wouldn't have the freedom we do. I think that despite what our beliefs are about the war, we should at the very least respect our military.

Sure let's blame the President and the next President and the next.... There has been war and there will always be war as long as this world stands. Read the Book. Those who run down our Country and the men fighting. Why don't you write the President, maybe he will bring all our boys home and then all the enemy can come and fight in our back yards and in our streets. As the man on the TV Show said "Deal or No Deal.

its not the soldiers, its never the soldiers unless they did some atrocity, and even then, who can blame them given their constant dealing with death and destruction? not that i condone their acts

but its really how the press and journalists choose to shape their reportsback to the masses

all these companies and journalists have their own ulterior motive and they will try to shape mass sentiment towards their own ends.

why doesnt the journliasts in iraq report on the infrastructure that is steadily growing in iraq? why dont they report on the fact that the iraqis are slowly gathering their self respect once again, and to see hope in their future? for all along since the 1950s they have known nothing but repression and fear from that idiot son of a ***** at the helm

why dont the reporters report thse to the american people and the world? instead they focus on body counts from friendlies, and about this nation pulling out and stuff, painting a picture of a second vietnam

its the press.

never blindly accept what u read. esp in the newspaper

The Liberals have been blaming the president for everything, including the 2 hurricanes that we had last year.

They blamed him for 9/11 then they said 9/11 was faked, then they said it was done at the behest of the president so he could go to war.

The president is doing something that should have been done since the late 70's and has not been done. Almost like ignoring the elephant in the room.

Pay attention to what is going on in the world.

Our women and men fighting today are all volunteeres. They obey the President, their boss, just as you do. These people are protecting us, and we have the duty to give them our respect. Visit a veterans hospital,or a National cemetery. Look at the grave stones. Why should any one die at 18 or 19?
We can't blame the President, or any of our presidents. Blame the men who hate the U.S.!!

The key point in your question is your understanding that it's only "some of us" who look down on the military. It's certainly nowhere near "all of us".

But America is a special place. We defend the right of even the smallest minority to say even the most despicable things. Then our press, which is more attuned to negative stories and those who challenge the status quo, irritates us by elevating these issues to a level of public awareness that they couldn't obtain on their own merit.

We all need to take a deep breath and realize that the vast majority of American citizens stand for traditional values like patriotism, strong families, belief in God and respect for authority.... especially our fighting men and women in the armed forces.

Ironically, having to hear the voices of those who hate what we love and value just affirms that this is the greatest nation on God's green earth!

Luckily for the servicepeople now, things aren't nearly as bad as they were after the Vietnam conflict. Some people do blame the leaders. I really haven't seen a lot of disrespect to our servicepeople but if some do show disrespect I would guess it is because we have an all volunteer service, unlike that of some previous conflicts when servicepeople were drafted. But even they were disrespected. The servicepeople of today have made a choice to serve with the knowledge they would likely have to fight in the conflict.

I suspect what most people find disagreeable is the connenction of troop support with pro-war sentiment, as anyone who is against war is labeled as "hating our fine men and women".
I do not like the methods and values that are in place in the military; I think that in many ways it's just a glorified frat-house where individuality is systematically erased, and I'm sure I'm not alone. But my opinion is just my opinion (possibly uninformed) and I understand that in many ways its a neccessity; not just for the country, but for the people in the military as well.
As for doing so much for people every day; many people didn't ask you to do anything, and rather dislike what you are doing. Is it fair to demand their support?

No one blamed the government for what happened in Nam. I came back and people spat on me! Oh yes, i feel SO threatened by Iraqi insurgents. Perhaps we should round up a few L.A. gang chapters into the next rotation cycle to Baghdad and kill two birds with one stone.
