Dee L and Dude : The people that choose movie for awards are professionals in that area, not amateur movie lovers like you are. A lotta thing are taken in consideration when you pick a movie for an award not just its sales.

It does have to do with immigration, racism, and stereotyping.
One of the final parts of the movie is where they've got a bunch of chinese people chained up in the back of this van, and the guy sets em free on the street.

'Crash' was a wierd movie, VERY politically motivated, good because it makes you think, bad because it reinforces stereotypes instead of challenging them.

You gotta remember, Hollywood's kind of a liberal place, and they have some wild ideas about the rest of the country and the rest of the world. On the silver screen, a man can fly, killer dinosaurs
roam the earth, aliens land and destroy the planet, the boy always gets the girl, etc etc etc.

Hollywood's also in Los Angeles, CA., one of the stranger places on this earth, land of opportunity slammed up against abject poverty, massive contrasts, there. I think 'crash' is just another celluloid nightmare that doesn't do a good job of reflecting real people in real life, and it's not hollywood's first 'in ya face' socio-political drama by a long shot, either.

As far as oscars go, well, draw your own conclusions there,
but don'tcha think it kind of stands to reason that if they think you're supposed to like a movie, they'll give it lots of awards?

Do yourself a favor: Shut off the VCR, the DVD player, the television, and the radio, and start paying more attention to the real world, and draw your own conclusions. Think for yourself.
Act on your own behalf. Go forth, live your life, and say 'goodbye' to Hollywierd. They can have an orgy, a festival of simulated carnage and social strife, fake blood and bullets, etc etc etc., meanwhile you get your life back, and a better perspective of the world. Life's not so bad, and in real life, people don't act like that.
That's why people in movies are called 'actors'. Stop being part of the audience, and go live your own life. Who cares if Blockbuster goes out of business? All they are is fantasy merchants...

I thought it was a great movie. I think that saying a movie is good just because it received an Oscar is wrong though. In this case though, the Oscar was well deserved. Very well deserved.

It left an impact on me. It really did a good job discussing something that people fear talking about. It points out in a well told story that racism isnt black and white subject. A man can save two black men out of love and later that night kill an innocent black guy because of fear.
Many times during the film I had these "Holy Crap!" moments when something shocking would happen only to twist in an even more shocking way, like when the Iraqi man tries to shoot the Mexican.

That movie was awesome!! It was provocative, complex, and you should not probably watch it if you act immaturely. It deserved the Best Picture award in the Oscars.

I mean it's alright...I think a bunch of people made a movie about calling every other race a bunch of racial slurs...and of course it got an oscar, you think anybody's going to deny anything about racism an award? I do think it was overhyped, but that's just my opinion...

In terms of theatrical presentation, it was OK. I thought it was a good and balanced vehicle to portray the circle of misunderstanding, and that racism cuts in all directions.
